2003 Suzuki VS 800 Intruder Logo

WHERE CAN I FIND THE FUEL PUMP ON MY 2003 SUZUKI VOLUISA INTRUDER?

I RECENTLY PURCHASED MY 2003 SUZUKI VOLISA INTRUDER AND IT DOES NOT START. I HAVE CHANGED THE PLUGS, CLEANED OUT THE TANK AND ADDED NEW FUEL, CLEANED OUT THE VALVE AT THE TANK TO THE ENGINE AND IT STILL DOES NOT STAY ON. iT STARTS IF I ADD STARTING FUEL IN THE CARB BUT DOES NOT STAY ON. WOULD IT BE THE FUEL PUMP OR I HAVE A BAD CARB?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

A couple of ideas you may want to consider when starting a bike that has not run for some time:

  • drain the carbs - there are drain screws at the very bottom of each carb for this purpose. Of course best would be to rebuilt the carbs or at least, disassemble and clean;
  • of course change to a fully charge battery;
  • remove the sparkplugs, get a clean dry sprayer similar to those used with plants;
  • fill the sprayer with some 2T oil, used for 2 stroke engines;
  • spray the inside of each cylinder through the empty sparkplug hole at least one spray. if the sparkplug holes are rather deep, you can use a short length of a hose;
  • test crank the engine with no plugs. this is to exercise the parts inside and evenly spread the sprayed 2T oil around the piston and rings;
  • ensure drain screws are closed, fill your tank open fuel valve. On most Suzuki, there are 3 positions, ON, RES and PRI. On the initial start pls use the PRI. The fuel will flow. The other two would require vacuum to open the valve.
  • confirm that fuel has entered the bowls of the carbs by opening the drain screw just to check;
  • in some instances, there would be an overflow on the very first filling of the carbs.
Other than the above a few more but these would initially be of help for the moment.

Would appreciate an update, curious myself.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy New Year.

did this just start all of a sudden or after being stored for a while? if it was stored then try new fuel, check and change fuel filter, and get some fuel system cleaner that goes in the gas tank, run til hot then let stand overnight. and try, old gas can gum up carbs starving the enging of fuel.

Sounds like water in the gas. ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher on hand when working on carburetors.
For each carb > Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side or bottom of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb.
Put the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. This process should get you back on the road.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!

Take the carburetors apart and either rebuild them or clean them thoroughly.

sounds like the float is not working properly , could also be the jet. would be a good idea to buy a carb kit, not very expensive and save a lot of grief.
