Harley wont start with choke on,but can start it with choke off

In mornings when bike is cold,its very hard to start,cannot use choke to start cause it just turns over and wont start,but if i cut choke off and pump throttle few times it will crank up. takes me about five minutes everyday to get it started.runs fine and starts normal when warm.....k n air filter,drag pipes,stage 1 jet.

Most fuel injected motorcycles do start up in a "fast idle" mode. Although I don't know much about fuel injection on Harleys (H-D will not tell you much about it unles you are one of their technicians), I don't think the system is equipped with an engine temp sensor. Since the crank case sensor get it's pulses from pockets cut into the outer edge of the left side flywheel half, the sensor will have oil on it.

Running low on fuel concentrates any water or sediment in the tank to the point where it just has to go down the fuel line and it clogs filters and carburettors. A tiny drop of water in a carb can play havoc...

I suggest you clean the fuel system and carb thoroughly...

Hard to start cold

Check the choke functions correctly and that the idle mixture is correct. If that fails strip and clean the carburettor.

Is there a manual choke in in new bajaj discover 125 st ..if its where is it located..um nt able to find it and it is very hard to start this bike in cold mornings..plz help

It does not have a manual choke, they have come up with a new technology called "Auto Choke." If you are having trouble starting in the cold mornings, please tune your bike accordingly to get it fixed.

I am having trouble with your english translation of the symptom. However, if your bike starts and runs fine once it is warmed up and initially starts fine in warm weather this indicates a clogged choke circuit in the carburator and will require a thourough and proper cleaning of the carb.

how cold when this happens? is the choke adjusted properly, is the battery in good shape and spins the engine fast, weak battery is single biggest cause of hard starting in cold weather, if the battery is good it really zings the motor fast. are u using the proper grade of fuel and the fuel is fresh? using higher Octane than recommended will cause a hard start in colder weather. This advice comes from 45 years of owning and repairing my own Japanese bikes.

Choke won't open or close

I think your bike has a CV carb which doesn't have a choke.It's called an enrichener. Pulling out the "choke" knob merely dumps more gas into the carb. If the bike starts normally with the knob pulled out, you do not have a problem. On a cold/cool day, pull the knob out and start the bike. If it idles faster than normal the system is working. Pushing the knob in should drop the idle speed, maybe stalling the bike if it is not fully warmend up.

Hard to start very hard when cold

I had a 97 900rr that did the same thing, give it a tune up and make sure your choke cable is functioning correctly and it'll start with little problems when it's cold.

COLD MORNING

no doubt this bike is running very lean at idle. Thats the way the EPA wants it. Im a harley mechanic and i used to work in a US dealer. all carb bikes at set up time had the carbs "readjusted". We drilled out the EPA plug and turned the idle air screw out and drilled out the pilot jet too. The bikes worked much better. we were at sea level too so the bikes were very lean from the factory. I can imagine that after the new legislation that came into force they are even leaner and require a full warm up to run properly. Warmed up means you put your hand on the motors head and its hot enought to have to jerk it away. this could take more than a couple minutes. and yes our "readjustment" was illegal. i advice you to do the same.
