SOURCE: Brake pedal won't return.

There could be a couple reasons for this. First thing to check is your return spring, is it still there and attached properly? Next thing to check is your master cylinder pressure release. Loosen the bleed nipple on the rear caliper. Does the brake release now? If so, your master cylinder has some debris clogging the fluid return passageway. Remove and clean it. If the brake still does not release after opening the bleed nipple, at least one of your caliper pistons is binding. Remove the rear caliper and the brake pads. Now press the pedal and force the pistons out. Looses the bleed nipple and attempt to press the pistons back into place. They should move smoothly when you apply firm pressure. Clean the caliper thoroughly. If you have a rebuild kit for the caliper this is a good time to rebuild it. After cleaning, put it back together, bleed the brakes and test again. It is normal for disk brakes to drag SLIGHTLY on the rotor, but they should not stop a free spinning wheel in less than a coupld revolutions when spun by hand.

Sure mirrors, nuts, bolts and screws. Maybe a fender and a bit of other stuff. But for the most part not much will match up and now you have this ugly monster in your garage and your next job is to figure out exactly how you are going to get rid of the da-- thing. Look a bit harder and get a match for your bike. Now you have something worthwhile.

Why is my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer brake pedal not releasing?

See if the return spring on the brake pedal is connected or may be stretched. This is a pretty good sized spring that is attached to the pedal arm and connects to the body up under the dash.

Rear brake light

Could be just the rear brake switch is bad or has a broken spring that attaches from switch to brake pedal. Maybe a loose wire.

My foot brake peddle does not return to up position when depressed.

Typically there should be 2 springs attached to brake pedal.....a light spring to the brrake light switch, and a heavier spring attached at one end to the frame and the pedal at the other end to assist the pedal to return to rest.
First is the spring still there or missing....if its there....does the installation allow the spring to
stretch when depressing the pedal, so it can contract when the pedal is released?

If that looks right.....look for the shaft where the pedal shaft rotates as you depress pedal....the shaft needs lubrication with grease to allow it to rotate freely.

The brake lights on my 2004 Mountaineer gets stuck. I was told that the problem is probably the brake light switch. How easy is that to adjust/replace? and where can I find instructions on how to do it?

The switch rides on the shaft that the brake pedal is attached to. When you depress the pedal the shaft pushes the switch in and turns the brake lights on. When you release the pedal a spring returns the switch to its extended (OFF) position. Your problem could be a broken spring, or it could be just the switch sticking on return. A bit of spray lubricant on the switch assembly might cure the problem. Otherwise, the switch is inexpensive and simple to replace, with just one or two screws holding it in place. To locate it, just run your hand up the brake pedal shaft.

Brake lights stay on whether the ignition is on or off

Hi Friend:

Your Brake Light Switch is Faulty or Damaged, You'll locate your Brake Light switch under the Drivers side dash,Attached to your Brake Pedal arm.

Its not an expensive Part Probally not over $10.00,

It has a couple wires running to it and is normally mounted on a small bracket, and has a nuts or a Clip holding it on to the Brake pedal arm.

This should get your Brake Lights out when your not pushing the brake pedal, While your under Dash ALSO make sure the Brake pedal return spring is Attached to the Brake pedal arm and is Pulling the brake pedal UP when its released.

Brake and tail light only work sometimes and the fuses are good

when i had my problem it ended up being a sticky spring return switch that connects to the rear brake pedal.

The lever for my back break will not return to its upright position after pressing the break. I think this may be due to the break cable. The pedal has lost its 'springyness' but when pressed the break...

There are four possibilities. From worst to easiest to fix: (don't worry, a link provided below has diagrams of all the parts in exploded view with part names)

1. There are two springs holding the brake shoes firmly against pivot post and brake lever cam, the ends of these can wear through and break. These provide most of the spring tension felt in a cable operated expanding shoe brake. Requires wheel removal and simple removal of brake hub to access.

2. The cam that expands the shoes (when rear lever is actuated) runs through a waterproofing rubber grommet. This grommet can often tear and bind up, reducing the return spring's effectiveness.

3. There is a spring behind the brake's foot pedal frame mount and the plate that pulls the front of the cable end. This maybe either dislodged or the angled ends broken off.

There is a compression spring at rear wheel end of cable, between cable stop and lever arm. This can be removed, stretched and replaced or packed with spacers to provide additional spring.

Check site below: Wheels/tyres/drive - Rear wheel parts #6 (shoe springs) part #7 (brake cam)
Frame/Footrests - part #4 (pedal return spring) part #9 (compression spring)

If this helps let me know below, ...Cheers.

the return spring ha broken you can try to adjust the outer cover but your going to have to remove the wheel to get to the brake spring. it is also possible the cable itself May be worn and sticking on the inside so you still need to pull it apart to see. also don't know if that models has the return spring on the pedal or not but see if it does and see if it is broke, hope this is helpful thanks for using fix-ya.
