Did your bike just die? or did it give you any misfiring before it quit? The ignitions are pretty sound these days and if you lost the low speed pulse coil you almost always get a erratic performance just before it quits. Have you bypassed the kill switch?I'm not trying to insult you because you sound very intelligent but the kill switch has caused more nightmares than I wish to discuss, on and off the track.Did your bike just die? or did it give you any misfiring before it quit? A few things, start simple disconnect the kill switch, remove the spark plug cap from the wire, check all your coneections from the stator to the cdi box to the coil.Still no spark your going to need a multi meter to check the stator and coil.If all this checks out to be good then it is your cdi box.A word of caution test these parts before replacing as they are not returnable and could get costly.A good shop could diagnose your problem in hour time.It may be money well spent if you do not understand your bikes ignition system.
Before going to the CDI system go ahead and check the kill switches including the side stand switch, with an Ohmmeter. How good is the battery? Check the fuses. Check the wiring harness. Are all wires clean and with a solid connection? Any abraded wires? Check the operation of the ignition switch with a volt ohmmeter. Is the bike in neutral and the neutral light is lit up?
You can download a free PDF factory service manual by going to the website below > http://www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp The manual should tell you in detail how to test the CDI and other electrics.
Please rate this solution. Thanks. > 4 diamonds would be nice!
Did you do a compression check just for the sake of saying the motor did not seize? Have you checked by grounding the spark plug to make sure there is not spark? Your problem really sounds like a seizure. You may have lost the CDI box.
yes, you are correct, those are the two pieces that could solve your problem, but i would go first for your cdi, you may choose to have it tested first also, before you jump out to buy a new one.
