Locating oil drain plug 2000 heitage softail?

Look at the oil tank from the right side down near the lower rear. You should see a hose going down behind the transmission. It goes on down to the lower tube on the frame behind the exhaust system. There is a metal plug in the line. Remove the plug to drain the oil.

The hose may run from the tank down to a crossmember of the frame where the shocks connect. If so, there is a plug screwed up from the bottom of the crossmember. I don't know what year they changed.

Good Luck

I think shocks are too low when me and my wife ride together the bike feels like it bottoms out can the shocks be adjusted

the shock can be adjusted. U need a spammer. Its an adjusting wrench for a softail. u can buy it at Harley - not very expensive. Just make sure you turn each shock the same. I mark mine with a drop of paint to measure how much they're turned

Mushy rear end when turning corners

Regrettably, the Softail line of Harley machines are not the best handling bikes on the road. With the shocks being located on the bottom of the bike, it doesn't lend them to being adjustable like other designs. The only thing I can tell you to do is maybe go to a high performance shock setup. Just like with all the other bikes, there are people that make better shocks even for the Softail.

In my opinion, the best handling Big Twin that Harley-Davidson ever made was the FXR. It's unique frame design made the frame stiff and it's traditional suspension allowed for adjustment of the suspension pre-load. With the addition of a pair of high performance rear shocks and some tuning of the 39mm front end, the bike would corner as well as any Sportster on the road. Of course, the Sportster is no match for some of the sport bikes on the road today but Harley is in it's own class even if it is a slower class.

What it takes to change rear shocks on a 2002 heritage classic any special tools do i need to support the bike if i change them out one at a time worried about sag if i pull it out or will it be ok thanx...

theres a special tool to adjust the shock, but you can change em out with a couple of open end box wrenches. I would jack up the bike and support the rear wheel then do the shocks one at a time

Rear shock removal

1. Using a suitable lift, support motorcycle under frame until
rear tire is slightly off the ground.
2. Remove bolt and washer (1) attaching shock to rear fork.
NOTE
Snap-on adapter, Part No. SRES24, is necessary to gain
access to shock bolt.
3. Remove flange locknut (5) and washer with grommet (4)
at front of shock.
