SOURCE: just bought a 2001 yamaha yzf 426 how do start

For a cold start, turn fuel on at fuel tap. Pull out the choke knob. slowly kick the kickstarter until you feel it become harder(more resistance). push past this resistance then release the kickstarter. What you have done is put the piston in the position just after top dead centre of the compression stroke. Now give it a big kick whilst opening the throttle slightly. There is a real techneque to it so don't think your the only one who has problems! Otherwise, ask your local Yammy dealer for a look at the owners manual. It has a description on how to both hot & cold start your bike. They may let you photocopy it. Good luck.
If it just isn't happening try removing the sparkplug, put it back in the plug cap, rest the plugs metal body on the cylinder head (don't hold it there or you could get a nasty shock) Now kick the kickstarter while watching the sparkplug gap. Did it spark? If it didn't theres a problem. No spark means it wont run! Then you'll need to find out why theres no spark. Hope this helps to get you started Otherwise let us know and i'll se what else I can suggest.

SOURCE: What is 2001 yamaha yzf 426 paint code

Frame color:
Deep Purplish Blue Metallic C (DPBMC)
This is Yamaha's color designation which is a dead end since they don't sell paint. Try Colorrite.com as they specialize in motorcycle oem match paint. This color is a 2-step process and requires the correct color primer to come out right. Color rite can fix you up with the proper coatings.

SOURCE: my 02 yamaha yzf 426

I have had the same problem with my bike, but found out that the jets were wrong and had to down size two times and now i have had no problems starting up or if i have stalled the bike it only takes about kicks to get it running again.

Will a 2002 yzf 426 motor work in a 2000 frame with the cdi box and what not

I have owned both these models and they are virtually identical apart from some minor differences. You will have no problem swapping engines between these 2 models. In fact pretty much every part is interchangeable.

Knocking in 1150gs engine, When riding loud knocking happened, returned staright away. Re-set valve clearances and did an oil change, saw some iron filings in oil. Took off r/h head and all looked OK....

take out con rods and check big ends i gess there now burt out though, if the oil pump packed up when you were riding it and you kept riding it its now a full engine rebuild, i gess this is were the iron filings come from or its from a piston tearing up and the rings have been ground up and forsed into the sump eather way its a big job now
