998 Top Speed?

The Ducati 998 has been my dream bike ever since they came out. I was just wondering if any 998 owners had the guts to hold the throttle to the stop and see what she had on the open highway or racetrack?

998 is a great bike... they arn't super fast top speed is 162mph and its gear limited not electronically limited. It will take you a while to get to 162mph quarter mile is 11.5 sec @ 135mph, so I'd guess, 15 sec or so too 162mph, from a stop. You can get a modern-day corvette to do better,,,

Ducati monster 998, 2008 model showing fault code F82 any ideas

A service manual is a valuable tool with an aging bike. I suggest the dealer/mfr. or Clymer books. In the meantime, go to the library reference section...646 stacks should have what you need.

Weird 998 problem

I think your theory sounds pretty accurate or one of the vents is just clogged.

Weird starting issues

the bike will frequently crank but not start. A quick opening of the gas tank lid cures the problem. My theory is that the vent opening on the cap and the rubber vent tube are not lining up properly. BTW it never has fuel starvation while runningI think your theory sounds pretty accurate or one of the vents is just clogged.,,

998 info

I looking to purchase a 998? 1.What is the + & - of this model? 2.Is the 998 a better bike than the 996? 3.What was the production year of the 998 2002 – 2003? 4.Does the 998S have the same engine as a regular 998? 5.What is some of the best mods to do to this bike?1.Its the first generation of the testastretta motor which is a major improvement on the older 4v design. Its a fantastic bike I'd shoot for a later S model, with Ohlins suspension and adjustable steering dampener. In those days, those components worked better. 2. The 996 is not a bike I'd recommend. They had several issues; from mid range hang-ups because of the dual injection, to the notorious flaking rocker syndrome. I'd stay away... the 998 is the right way to go. 3. 2002 - 2004 actually. The best of the 998's was the 2004 FE edition, with a number plate on the triple. If I were to spend any money, thats where I'd go. There is also a limited production 2002 model year ONLY 998R, which is pretty awesome and has carbon fiber everywhere. 4. In the US, the motors are all the same. In europe, the S model had a deep-sump motor, which put out more power. 5. If your riding around town, most guys get bar risers, better seats and of course, rear sets. If you plan on tracking the bike, heh... you're in for a list that will make your eyes bleed. They are great bikes, I truly wish they were cheaper because I'd own one! Just remember, mileage doesn't really mean very much with Ducati's. The big deal is year. The newer it is, the better off you'll be!,,,
