If your bike sat for that long with fuel in the carb, it's probably gummed up the carb on the inside. The carb needs to be disassembled and cleaned out on the inside. This is job best left to someone who is experienced in this area.

Make sure fuel system is clean,trash in the jets makes it run rough, or start then quit.cleaner that you add to the fuel might remove some deposits but will not remove trash.start it in the dark look for fire (sparks) from the plug wires.replace wires that have too much resistance too.

Try tightening the battery cables at both ends of each cable. Sounds like one or more of them may be loose.

How hard is it to remove the carb on a 1995 Harley Sportster. The bike has not run in 4 years. I got it started but it won't idle under 2000rpms and runs rough. I think the carb needs a good clean

Very easy to remove and disassemble the carb. Just keep track of every thing you did and where it went. It would be best to get the manual if you can.
