1985 honda accord starts, then dies

1985 honda accord, is carbureted. The problem is that when I start the car, it immediately dies unless i rapidly pump the gas pedal. If I let off the gas pedal, it dies. If I hold the gas pedal down it dies. It restarts just fine, but it keeps dieing. I can't drive it because the carburetor seems to not be giving the engine any fuel? What check or repair first?

SOURCE: 1999 honda accord idle problem:

Is the engine light on, if so have them read? Take a look the charging system (see if it is above 13volts and below 16volts), see if the gas cap is on firmly and the o-ring on it is in good shape, look at the cars maintenance history and see how long its been since the last complete tune-up. If there are no codes recorded then it would probably be a mechanical issue, Look at coils, fuel pressure, timing, and injectors. If you need more specific info, just let me know, Good luck.

SOURCE: how to reset fuel pump on 1999 honda accord a/t?,

I replaced the pump on my 1999 Accord EX V6 and didn't have to reset a thing. The only problem is that the low fuel light doesn't come on every time it should. The poor idling sounds like a different problem like your TPS or the IAC solenoids. Have your local parts store pull codes for you for free if you have a check engine light on.

My 1986 honda accord the rpm's go up and down and then it just dies. then most of the time it takes forever to get started

I have had considerable experience repairing Honda Car products, primarily in the dealer environment, and mostly in during the 1980's. In my experience, your problem sounds very much like a bad Ignition Igniter (Ignition Module). It should be located inside the of the Ignition Distributor (Hitachi). or on the side of the distributor housing (Toyo Denso).

How to adjust choke on 87 honda accord

It might just need cleaning. Spray some PB Blaster around the throttle arm where the cable connects to at the base of the carb, and see if that frees up the flaps. And while spraying, fiddle with the throttle linkage.
