No Tail lights. Or brake lights(when the headlights are on). HELP!!!

I have a 95 GMC suburban and I have no tail lights at all. When my head lights are off the front and rear turn signals work( unless you hit the brake then they work but flash fast). When the headlights are on the rear turn signal don't work(unless you hit the brake then they work but once again they flash fast). Also when they head lights are on there is no brake lights at all except the little strip on the top. Headlights on there is no tail lights at all. When i turn on the hazards the lights in the back work and flash but not very brightly like they should. I just replaced the brake switch just the other day and yesterday i replaced the turn signal/multifunction swith that runs through the column. Please help!!!

I think you have a bad ground at the back on both rear lights or their earth out on the same connection but these american cars use a funny system where the stop lights are the indicators and not a seperate yellow light like europeon motors ,Now these brake light switches also allow the indicators to work by shutting off the feed to the stop light so it flashes with indicators ,Why american cars use this system i dont know as its so complicated for the stop light switch function but try the ground or earth wire on the back lights and if no joy then ask a american mechanic with experiance of this sort of circuitry as when i get american cars for import i have to fit new back lights and disconnect the brake light switch .

SOURCE: Dashboard lights and tail lights don't work

Check the TAILGHT FUSE. GM's unusual way of letting you know there is something wrong. Otherwise how often do you check your tailight operation. Only by another driver telling you, your tailights aren't working, would you know. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: I have a 96 Suburban.

My problem was in the trailer hitch wiring. Someone had spliced the wires and the corrosion finally caused one of the wires to crack. I respliced and soldered the wires. All works fine now.

Where is the tail light fuse?

The tail light fuse is under the rear seat on the drivers side.

Brake lights work but tail lights out - Help! (Thanks)

Tail lights are on a different fuse than the headlights. If you already checked the bulbs then check the fuses. They're under the dash, on the left side of the driver.
Hope this helps.

No dash and tail lights working.

Well the dash lights and tail lights are on two different circuits and fuses, but both controlled by the headlight switch.
Have you checked the fuses to see if they have power ?

1991 gmc suburban right tail light won't work

Check the socket for power (with a 12 volt test light probe) to the pin that operates the running light bulb filiment, use the other tailight for a guide or just touch all the pins, one should light the test light up

I have no tail lights

I had this very same problem on a GM truck at work the other day, I believe it to be a bad headlight switch because I cycled the switch between headlight and parking light positions, I had tails when I had the switch in the parking light position and not in the headlight position, changed the switch and everything worked, Made my day!

Headlight switch on makes tail light dim

there must be a short circuit which powers tail lights and brake lights. probably you have a dual filament bulbs which have both brake and tail light together. check for bulb, socket/or bulb housing and harness of that light.
