Flapper valve I installed a new 1.6 GPF toilet yesterday. ( TK Patriot Space Saver 6001058 Part number 141215096.) When flushing, the flapper valve closes too quickly not letting enough water out of the tank to do an adequate flush. I have not changed the lenght of the flapper valve lift chain from where the factory had it set. It appears to have a little slack when flapper valve is closed. What do I do to keep this valve open longer?

Fill the breather hole (1/8" hole) inside the flapper.This is designed to let air out so the flapper will sink. Now it floats longer letting in more water. 25%percent more in my case.

You say water is leaking out of the bowl?

Toilets have 2 parts:
1) Tank: where water is stored for the flush and is sealed with a flapper.
2) Bowl: where water flushes down.

a) If tank is leaking water, then flapper is suspect. Replace flapper and see if that works.
Lift up flapper and run finger around rim to see if there is a rough spot that would indicate flush valve is defective, and needs replacement.

b) If bowl is leaking, that is very unusual and would indicate a crack in the porcelain.

If installer sold you the toilet, it is his responsibility to make good on product.

Your Toto has the "G-Max" flush valve system. The Korky/Lavelle folks have a carded replacement flapper #2021BP for it. It is red in color and the only generic flapper that will work on your toilet. While it may look the same, do not confuse it with the blue flapper #2022BP. Known as the PowerMax flapper, the blue color is to distinguish between the two and the flappers are totally toilet specific. Let your fingers do the walking and locate a hardware store near you that carries the Korky/Lavelle brand or it can be ordered online from several places using the part number for your search word.
If the fill valve ever stops filling correctly, the Lavelle "Quiet Fill", #528BP, is what Toto uses in most of their toilets.

Turn of the feed line for the water. Flush the toilet. Then reach in tank and pick up the flapper valve. Clean around the seat of the flapper valve real well. Check for damage on the flapper valve and clean it as well. Put the flapper valve back in its seat and turn the water on to fill the tank. Then bend the rod for the float down a touch. This will put more pressure on the water valve at the top of the pipe in the tank. If this doesn't work, you may need to change your float valve. They wear out. The ones you buy in the DIY stores generally have diagrams and good instructions for installation.

lift the lid,and look, flush, the rubber valve that opens when lever is is pulled should float, so either its very loose or broken and needs to be replaced.plz rate-bozcro

Troy, the flapper otherwise known as the flush valve is easily replaced. They are also very inexpensive. Sometimes they can become distorted due to the clorine in the water and won't operate in the same way they did when it was new. I bet this will fix your issue and save you money as well.
