Hi I have a 1992 toyota estima lucida 4wd 2.4l petrol. the engine suddenly lost power and vibrates like rough idle and could only get as far as 2nd shift in drive and will start knocking and pinging. it wants to stall as it goes into drive or reverse. this all started after getting some petrol and it loses power about a mile down road not far from home. Had compression test with cylinder 3 and 4 down to 60 and 55 psi. is this bad petrol thats causing it or worse? Thanks

start by pulling hose off egr valve see if idles smoother almost instantly

Sounds like you've blown her up. An engine starts knocking when the bearings are worn to the point of being loose. I wouldn't keep starting her up. If I'm right(and the odds are on me) you'll sling a rod through the block or the oil pan.
If you can get the oil pan off do so(after uyou drain it of course) and grab the rods one at a time and find out which one(or more) that's giving you the problem.It(or they) will be loose around the crank shaft.
Good luck,but for Heavens sake DON'T start it again until you check those rods.
