does the noise sound like its coming from your speakers? if so and if it gets louder with engine rpm it is called RFI (radio frequency interference) its coming from your alternator and being picked up by your radio and coming through your antenna. hope this helps. ,Vinny
Could be the start of a transmission problem. GM had a ton of recalls from 2004-2010 on their transmissions.
aside from the worst case. Ask your mechanic friend if you have a "fan clutch" and the test is simple. When you shut off the engine, does the fan continue to spin for a short time?
I have run into a few that had faulty fan clutches. If you hear it when shifting gears, that leans toward the transmission, but related, and also a recall from GM is the driveshaft.
You can call the service department at any GM dealer, ask for a service drive person, then have your VIN number handy as you ask them to do a search for recalls for your vehicle.
so it has some to do with rotation. you can jack one front wheel up, set parking brakes, start the car and put in drive. which ever side make noise, that's the one you need to inspect cv-axle, wheel bearing, ect.
check any thing that turns with the wheel
Be sure that oil was added when the new compressor and line were put in. It sounds as if the compressor is the one making noise. Is it a new compressor?
With Serpintine Belt OFF SPIN And Listen to ALL PULLEYS for any Noise they should be Quiet It almost HAS TO Be One of them. Tentioner Pulley ALSO. Please Reply Back to me We CAN Get this Solved
I had the same whining noise, but after a minute or two it would go away. It turned out to be my water pump. It wouldnt turn first thing in the morning and the belt was just running through the pulley, (causing the whining noise). This may not be your problem, but it is easy to check. Just pop your hood and see if the fan is turning.
Yep, That was it. i followed a link to trailvoy.com and found a video with the same noise and links to how to repair. My husband fixed it yesterday and the noise is no more!! Good Luck..
If the noise sounds like a weeeeeee that increases in pitch as the RPMs increase, and you haven't heard this sound before the 'problem', suspect the alternator...
