How to ajust carb on a harley 1100 sportster need to know settings bike is jumps in 1 st & 2 nd gear after 2 nd runs good

  • Anonymous Aug 21, 2011

This depends on the type of carb that is on the bike. What year model is the bike. The stock carb on all Harleys since the mid-1970's are not adjustable. The only adjustment is the idle mixture screw and that's covered with an "anti-tamper" plug. Unless this plug has been removed, the carburator is not adjustable. If the carb is something other than a Keihin carb with Harley-Davidson, it depends on what kind of carb it is. Still once the engine is above idle speed, the adjustment of the idle speed mixture makes no difference.

SOURCE: 03 harley sportster, hooked up new led turn

The load on the LED lamps is too low for the turn signal control box. there is an equilizer box available you have to put in line with the signals to get the load back to where it needs to be.
In it's current condition it beleives a light is burnt out.
you can get the device at your local dealer or on line .

SOURCE: Engine wont start but is turning over i believe. gear shifter broken and jammed in first or second gear.

Hi Alex Iam not too sure but I think this model had a neutral switch fitted that stopped the bike from starting in gear , and displayed a light on the clocks when the bike was in neutral .
If as you say the bike is jammed in first this is probably the cause
the jamming sounds abit more serious ?.. you may have bent the selectors and this will mean a gearnox stripdown , it is even possible you have damaged the lay shaft if the bike was travelling when you came off this would also mean a box strip down .
I dont think there is an easy answer to this one Alex loks like you will have to take the engine apart to fix this one ( one thing did strike me I had an old BSA that I slid on the gear shaft and did the same thing stuck in first turned out I had bent the gear shaft removal of the pedal and gentle tapping freed the gears off and I was able to use the bike again ? it may help I cant be sure be careful not to damage the case or the splines I used a small lump hammer and a block of 4x 4 against the shaft .. I also put a wedge behind the shaft to stop damaging the rear of the box housing ) hope this helps Regards vortash

2001 Sportster. Just installed a Screaming Eagle engine. It starts up and runs, but why does it want to shut off, especially at idle?

Carb needs ajusting. Check utube or pinterest or buy a haynes or clymer shopbook for harley or eagle. Try setting throttl lever highr before it dies if not fuel inject

2005 Harley Davidson 1200 Custom Sportster Stalls at Lights and Stop Signs

4700 not a lot of miles. This motorcycle needs to run. It will be rough until you can get the carb cleaned. I would keep doing what you have been doing for a while. After a couple hundred miles if it doesn't improve, you might want to consider having the Harley shop give it a good tune up. Check the plugs ...

I have a 2004 harley davidson 883 sportster and it keeps popping out of 2nd gear the guy i bought it from said that he replaced the gear and it just needs to be broken in?

No, sorry to tell you that you don't need to break a gear in. There is something not quite right in the transmission if it's jumping out of gear. If I had to guess, he probably broke second gear speed shifting the bike, then replaced the gear and go the shimming messed up and it doesn't have the correct engagement with the shifter clutch dogs. To repair this, you'll have to pull the transmission out of the case. If your mechanically inclined, this isn't that difficult but you WILL need a factory service manual to check the transmission to find out what is wrong. Heck, he may have put the gear in backwards. Some of them will work that way but they'll jump out when power is applied or let off.

Good Luck
