Engine missing & decreasing millege

Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Is there any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ).

Drain the carburetor. There may be a screw on the lower side of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. Install a new stock NGK spark plug and try to start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the
carb and spray into the screw holes as well.

Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. This process should get you back on the road.

Battery is the problem.

The battery may be the problem. Batteries for bikes are not long lasting. Just sitting idle can cause them to deteriorate. Your battery, cold should read 12.6 volts, That is at 100%. If it isn't, replace it. If the bike isnt going to be used for awhile its best to leave it on a fully automatic, battery minder. They range from $40 to $75. I would also replace the thin, damaged connector, going to the battery posts. It will cause extra resistance and will cause you other problem down the road. Poor battery condition, bad battery cable connections, and dry unprotected connections can result in that white ashy corrosion that you see on the posts. You dont need any fancy chemicals. Vaseline works great.

1989 yamaha pro hauler. How do I change the rear

The axle drain is on the bottom of gear housing. The fill is on the side. On the side of the engine there is a round cover with 3 bolts, the filter is under that. Check your oil level, if it is high the oil will be pumped into the airbox. The filter can be washed with foam air filter cleaner.

There is not enough information for me to identify your bike. Go to http://www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp , and see if your model is listed, and if it is then download a manual. I have a "Genesis", but it is actually a FZ750 Yamaha. :)

Gladiator chain problem

I hate to give you the bad news but it is not likely the damaged sprocket is under warranty. The sprocket was not bent when it left the showroom floor and Yamaha Corporation has no control where and how you drive.

Chains should run true and not be forced to move side to side to fit a bent sprocket. The sprockets are hardened steel. It is not a good idea to bend them back and forth.

You didn't say which sprocket had the problem. A front sprocket will cost around $30 and a rear sprocket will cost around $60. Installation will also cost unless you do it yourself.

Try jumping across the starter soleniod. If that don't start the machine then your starter probably needs to be rebuilt. Rebuild kits can be purchased for about 35 dollars from any motorcycle shop that deals with J&M ATV or Mcdonald ATV. both these places have websites that will tell you where a dealer is near you.
