Drain plugs

Under the crank case. Just take a small mirror & watch the bottom of the crankcase. You can locate the hexagon bolt in the reflection view.

My husband keeps paying $190 to have

It is a bit more complicated than just removing a drain plug. $190 for an oil change is a rip-off in my opinion. The best thing to do is to order a factory service manual from a Yamaha dealer. It will cost $50 or so but the first oil change that Hubby does will more than pay for the manual. Get him one and say " Happy Birthday Dear ". Please rate my answer. Thanks.

06 Roadliner sparkplug

Below the tank there should be about 4 bolts holding the tank to the frame, loosen then and lift the tank enough from seat side, you should be able to access the wiring and plugs.

I want to change the spark plugs on my 2006

My best advise - don't waste your time. Check the manual and I think you will find that the plugs won't need to be changed for a while. The bike has 2 plugs per cylinder (4 total) and will require you to take the tank, some gas lines, and a few other odds and ends off the bike before accessing the plugs. The plug wires might get damaged if you pull them off roughly. The more often you pull them and re-attach them, the sooner you will have to replace those too. You will need a spark plug wrench (socket) or the one from the tool kit that came with your bike (ha ha) that will hold the plug as you pull it out from between the valve covers for the overhead cams. Turn the spark plug on the axis, don't put any bending force on it. This is also true when putting in the new plugs. Side force will crack the ceramic. Also, the threads are fine so don't cross thread the plug into the cylinder head - this will make it difficult to get the plug in right and might cause lost compression/engine power. Also make sure the area around the plug is clean and dry so no dirt falls into the cylinder when you pull the plug. Also, turn off your tank valve before pulling the tank off (if a valve is on that model).

I am sorry to say, the tone of the question just makes me want to say, please don't do this yourself. Wanting to change plugs and needing to change plugs are two different things. Also, asking if it is difficult vs. knowing that you have the experience to explore a bit to see for yourself (take the parts off to see where the plugs are) makes me think you haven't done this before.

If you live in the northeast US, enjoy the warm November and ride instead of work on the bike. Let the dealer take care of it when it is needed. Doing it early doen't make your bike last longer or give it more power. It just takes time and money from other things you could be doing.

If you want to do it to spend an afternoon learning about your bike, go ahead and take some parts off and see where the plugs are. If it is easy and you have the the tools, it won't hurt anything to pull the wires, unscrew the plugs and check to see if they are black, full of soot, the electrode is eroded away or, hopefully, the look a nice light carmel color of a well used and well tuned engine. If they are nicely colored, put them back and keep riding. Make sure you get your tank back on and the fuel line connected well.

Good luck and let me know what you decide to do.

Air filter replacement

Remove the 3 bolts from the instrument cluster on the tank, remove the wiring connectors to the instrument cluster under the front of the cluster, remove the tank and the filter is in the top of the box under the fuel tank. You are supposed to remove the fuel lines, but if you are careful you can set the front of the tank off to the left side of the bike and support it with a cahair or something similar so that the fuel lines don't have to be reconnected. OOOOPS forgot...you need to remove the seat first.

Hope this helps.

When reinstalling the drain plug

Hello; Safe saves! If in doubt, take it completely out and give the threads a good visual inspection. Take a good look at the case threads also. Sometimes, when a plug is removed, the copper or nylon gasket creeps up the threads. when reinstalling the gasket then jumps the threads giving a sudden loose feeling,. After inspecting and making sure the seal, between the case and drain plug, is flat against the underside of the plug. When tightening, turn the plug slowly continue until the crush or sponge feeling is gone and the plug is firmly seated. Do not go past "STOP"! Good Luck and thanks for using Fixya for your answers. _Ned_

I have a 2002 Yamaha SR125 and my original Speedometer has packed in. Everything works apart from the mileage. Does anyone know how to wind the Clock back?

This is a highly ill - eagle act to do. In the old days we would put an electric drill on the drive cable, but now they make them tamper proof so they only go one way. The bezels are crimped on so you can't get inside them. I expect modern one may be electronic. How will your insurance company know what mileage you have done? I have never known an insurance cancel or fine due to mileage. You should have just disconnected it when you got close to the limit. Buy a used one and use them for 6 months in turns. There are two or three here 23K and one with 36k https://www.google.com/search?q=2002+yamaha+sr125+speedometer ..

Yamaha XT125X - I have just changed the fuel valve and put petrol in the tank. Now the engine won't start and the fuel light is on all of the time? Any ideas anyone please?

Make sure the fuel is getting to the valve and passing through it. Possible blockage in fuel line or in the tank.
