Lost power
(1) make sure that wire to coil not grounding out.
(2) i have seen some bikes get water into spark plug cavity and
cause ground out.
Vstar carb
There is no spring, the cable should close the choke..if the cable is bending instead of closing the choke, then the choke must be sticking...it should close very easy. I would try just cleaning it with some carb/choke cleaner...maybe some wd-40
Starting issues
REPLACE WIRE AND CDI FUSE ETC DISCONNECT ALL WIRE TERMINALS BATTERY ETC THEN RECONNECT TO RESET IT.
How do I check the
put the machine level and upright, on the diff there is a bolt half way up on th vertical this is the filler plug, remove this and you should get a little trickle of oil, if not add some untill it does just start to trickle out.
I got my oil changed
The o-ring on the filter housing could be the problem, or maybe it was not tightened properly. You will need to clean all the residual oil off, position you bike in the upright position and determine the leak source. Hopefully it's not a case cover. Good luck, i hope this helps.
I can't get rear wheel
Put the motorcycle in gear so when you rotate the rear wheel the spline on the final drive does not rotate with the wheel. Did you remember to grease the final drive spline with Moly60 Paste available from your local Honda dealer?
Popping out rear cyl ex pipe
Could have air leak between carb and head (intake manifold), or carb may need adjustment.
Has the bike been setting up for awhile? If so, it problably needs carb and carb jets cleaned.
try SeaFoam, Lucas, or other good carb and Fuel injection cleaner added to the fuel. They are a petro base additive, so you can't add too much. With the ethanol that is in most fuel now, bikes cannot be parked for very long without gumming up.
Bike sits a lot,Hard to start, will only continue
You need to clean your carburetors. The ethanol that is in gasoline turns to an orange colored film
and it clogs the jets. The prevention for this seems to be seafoam added to your gasoline after your carbs are clean.
It does work. If your bike sits a lot, i would also suggest that you start it up weekly and let it warm up. Sitting is the worse thing for gasoline.
Judging from your description and other problems, the backfire is probably bad gas not burning and igniting in the cylinder when overloaded with gas.
A good carb cleaning, consists of taking the carbs off the bike, taking out all the jets and soaking everything in a good carb solution.
I would start with the carb cleaning, drain the old gas out of the tank, start with fresh 93 octane and add the recommended dose of seafoam listed on the back of the botlle to your gasoline.
Put a set of new spark plugs in it, and fire it up.
Your back fire should be gone as well.
Have a 2004 yamaha classic changed to K& D
Well - the front pipe has to be removed to change the oil filter on this bike, so it's very likely that when reinstalled the mechanic did not get it back in place correctly. Couple that with the likelyhood that he re-used the old exhaust gasket and this is your most likely cause for the backfire - a simple exhaust leak. Other typical causes for exhaust backfires are insufficient valve clearance, burnt valves or incorrectly adjusted carbs. In my experience the most common cause for exhaust backfire is a leak in the exhaust circuit which can draw in fresh air during decelleration.
I left handle bar heaters
If you can't get jumper cables on the battery, you can always take it out and charge it. If you don't mind taking a hick approach, you can turn ignition on and see if you can jump another battery straight to starter motor and crank it--it might start if there is enough battery power for spark.
How do I add break
the rear brake reservoir is at the front r/h side of the bike on the frame rail just above the rear brake lever, you need to remove screw that holds it to remove metal cover so that you can remove lid to reservoir and check fluid
