1994 Yamaha XJ 900 F Questions & Answers
No 3rd gear
You will need to have the ****** rebuilt most likely, that is very expensive, trust me. Also it is not a job for most owners that you can do at home, it requires special tools and manuals ands of course factory training.
What is the correct engine oil for an xj900f
Any 10/40 oil will do, but you have to run motorcycle 10/40. Car oil will not do, unless you are stranded,etc. Always replace your crush washer, or sealing washer. Prefill your new oil filter with the new oil. Start and let run for a minute, turn off and wait for a couple of minutes to get the correct oil level. Check the oil level when the bike is straight up. Tyre pressures
Hi,
Offhand, the recommended tire pressure could be read on the tire itself. In most instances, this the tire pressure actually depends of:
- rider's weight, with or without passenger;
- rider's driving habits;
- type of road where the bike is often ridden;
- weather condition and ambient temperature.
Personally, I find a bit lower tire pressure on the front and standard or a bit harder at the back.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
XJ900 1983 tank removed and there are 4 hoses to
I could not find a parts diagram for a 93 XJ900 but I found one for a 750. All I could see was 2 hoses going to the fuel petcock. Not sure if the petcock is vacuum controlled, but the second hose might go to one of intake manifolds. This feature stops fuel from flowing when the engine is off. On California bikes it may also have a hose going to some charcoal canister(s) for capturing fuel vapor. On some tank designs their is also a hose that allows excess fuel at the filler cap to spill to the ground instead of spilling all over your tank.
No spark to plugs
Check your fuses and for power to the coil, CDI ignition may be bad.
When i press the starter

Hi there. It sounds as if you have done some the detailed stuff on this and without having the bike or unit in front of me it might be difficult to pinpoint exactly what the issue is but I will give it a bash. We've ruled out HT leads, spark plugs already so let's look at some more basics. Can you please verify that the wiring is exactly as it should be as this will affect the distribution of the spark. Whilst you are at it please verify that the CDI box is the correct year, model number etc as the might look the same on the outside but on the inside they are different. Come back to me
When i got the bike
The coil for the #1/4 spark plugs is mounted on the left side of the bike, and has the solid orange (ground) wire and the red-with-white-tracer-stripe (hot) wire input leading to it.
The coil for the #2/3 spark plugs is mounted on the right side of the bike, and has the solid grey (ground) wire and the red-with-white-tracer-stripe (hot) wire input leading to it.
