1985 Yamaha FJ 1100 - Page 5 Questions & Answers
Hi have a 1992 FJ1200, which seems to have a knock
the fuel tank knocking in the slot that its fitted to is tough to see, just bump up at either end or side to duplicate it. Had that same deal on a shadow once.use neopreen foam rubber(placed out of sight) to help eliminate any movement .
What kind of problem would
you can have dust, sand and other particles getting up into the grease of the hub,, eventually causing it to ware out and fail..
Hi have a yamaha fj1100 want to do the cam chain
Howdy: Depending on the year some FJs have a nut/screw at the bottom rear of the front cylinder. This can be adjusted and it works.
If the chain has not been adjusted in the past the nut/screw may be
stuck with gunk. Spray a little carb cleaner on the nut/screw and let set for a couple houres then try again. Get a manual for that year follow the "cam chain tensioner" procedure. I do not have enough lines to expain the proceedure. Good luck and ride safe - Doug
Yamaha fj1200 3XW. ABS LIGHT FLASHING ABS WORKING
Most of the time ABS problems are with sensers but which one? The master cylinder has a fluid level that sticks low evewn if theres enought fluid so makw sure it flates up in the fluild if the light stays on them check the wires and the plugs that plug in the wheel speed sensers as the sensers seldom fail but the wires abd plugs get into troble. Follow the wires from the sensers to the ABS controller and reconnect them and inspect all the covering and wires for troble. Most two wire sensers will have some continuity with an OHM meter but it will be high. If you meter has wave form then put in on one wire to ground with everything connected and turn the wheel and you should see pulse and its a yes or no answer. If the wires and the sensers check out and the levels senser can be proven to work you best let someone with access to the Yamaha dianostic equipment to look at it. Rember that an open brake line or an unbleed brake line will also make the light come on.. Unplug the ABS controller only with the key off and the battery unhooked as these parts are easlily damaged by spickes in power or a low or bad battery. Once all inspections are made and the battery connections cleaned and reconnecdted try again as you may have cleaned something up and it's making now and the system may work just fine
Clutch issues
Not overly familiar with your bike, but there is probably a kill switch on the center stand to stop the engine. This prevents the potential problem of coming off the center stand with the wheel spinning.
No clutch pressure
Its more than likley that you have an air lock in the clutch fluid ,try bleeding it again very carefully
2005 Yamaha v star 650 losing power
What Exactly does the bike do when it 'loses power'? This will give clues as to where the issue could be. When was the last time the bike was given a major service? Sometimes it can be as simple as a dirty fuel/air filter or an old/worn or dirty spark plug.

1995 Yamaha Virago 535. It runs good for about 7 miles then starts backfiring?
- Fuel System Issues:
- Check the fuel system for clogs, such as a dirty fuel filter or carburetor jets.
- Ensure that the fuel tank and fuel lines are clean and free from debris.
- Consider adding a fuel system cleaner to help clean out any deposits.
- Ignition System Problems:
- Inspect the spark plugs for fouling, wear, or improper gap.
- Check the ignition timing to make sure it's set correctly.
- Inspect the ignition coils and wiring for any loose connections or damage.
- Air Intake and Exhaust Issues:
- Examine the air filter for clogs or dirt that may restrict airflow.
- Inspect the exhaust system for any leaks or blockages.
- Vacuum Leaks:
- Check for vacuum leaks in hoses, gaskets, or intake boots. A vacuum leak can cause an improper air-fuel mixture, leading to backfiring.
