1996 Triumph Trophy 1200 Questions & Answers
Engine cuts out when warm as though a kill switch
this is a common problem with a lot of motorcycles
there is a break in the main ignition wire
and the break is probably down by your head stock (front of the frame where the triple tees bolt on)
after a while wiring goes stiff and brittle and sometimes cracks and where the bike front end moves about the wiring sometimes cracks
just to check that start your bike and move the front end around from left to right
and see if it cuts out
if it is ok i would check your fuel air mixture
check for leaks in the inlet manifold
for a get you home idea use a condom as a temporary measure
remove the carb and remove the inlet manifold
slide the condom over the inlet manifold
cut a hole in the end of the condom
refit the inlet manifold nice and tight
slide the carb back in place and fit the air filter
this is just a temporary measure
and is no way a permanent fixture
and will do until you get a new inlet manifold
hope this helps
Trophy new tank
did you have 2 fittings on old tank? if so then you need 2 fittings on this one, each carb needs to get enough fuel, if you use a t piece you will be making them struggle to get it. you can try and see, but as far as i know they should be separate feeds
Fuel starving at cruising speed 100kmph
it sounds like you guessed right, the fuel tap is not correct for that bike,i had one in then shop the other day and it is two pipes coming off the fuel tap 1 to each pair of carbs,by changing to a single pipe of the same diameter you are effectively cutting your fuel supply in half and every "t" fitting that goes in the line restricts it further...go back to the standard tap fitting and get rid of all the "t" fittings and your problem should go away
I have a leak on the front fork seals and will
G'day,
To do it yourself you would need some special tools & is not so easy a task without experience so the bike shop is the best suggestion.
If you really want to do it yourself then the greatest advice I can give you is to purchase a manual.
It will let you see what your up against, give you a special a tools list ,& give you step by step instructions on how to undertake MANY DIFFERENT repair & maintainance procedures.
In the end it would pay for itself over & over.
Of course you can search the net to see if someone has posted it free in a downloadable file.
I find a lot of manuals that way.
I hope this helps a bit

Need to lower my 96
I had the same problem with my 1995 GL1500SE Goldwing. It sat to tall so I had the seat shaved right at the forward edges and had the boot maker build up another inch of sole on my riding boots. It was a lot cheaper then suspension modifications and didn't upset the geometry of the motorcycle.
Over all gain was about 2.5 inches
Coils

My 96 Triumph trophy 1200 won't go into 1st gear
this could be a slack cluch cable not disengaging the drive train,, or worst still a bent first gear selector with in the gear box, pricy to fix? dont start stamping on the gear leaver to forse it on gear!!!! you will only snap it off completly but the gear is still there it just hasent gone into gear yet! have you done an iol change lately? did you put the wrong oil in the engine?
ie:to thick??? that would do it too, plus look how old it is???? wear and tear on the box is normal,,,
Trying to find how we're spark plugs are
Spark plugs are in the engine head, look for thick wire about 4-5mm going to usually a big black connector, The connector will pull off, spark plug is the bit it pulled off from.
