I give my bike gas and it stalls out
Is difficult to diagnose these problems as it could be any of these;
Electrical; 90% of problems are electrical, in this case the spark could be breaking down under load and especially if the spark plug is old it may pay to try this first, Don't think there are any computers onboard the Savage but there may be an ignition system fault but this will be your last resort.
Fuel supply; cleaner additives are rarely effective and if there is contamination it will require the tank and fuel system cleaned, removing the carby fuel bowl for inspection for contaminants is the first step here.
Air Supply; Before doing anything else check for obstructions in the air intake, usually under the seat, this is especially important if you have fitted any seat cover, the webbing holding these on can be sucked into the air intake when applying throttle
Troubleshooting no spark from coil 1987
Have you checked the pick up coils inside the generator cover. If they are faulty they will not send a signal to the CDI box and in turn you will get no spark from the main output coils
Where is the battery fuse?
The main fuse is typically located outside the fuse box on the starter solenoid or next to it. Follow the positive battery cable to the starter solenoid and look there.
Light bulb size
It won't start when the kickstand is down if the gearbox isn't in neutral. If the light isn't working then the switch may be broken or a wire may be damaged.
Can not figure out where
Some bikes have the battery under the seat, or a plastic side panel in front of the rear wheel. If your gas filler is under the seat the battery will be under the mock gas tank close to the neck. I have a v-rod and the battery is packed under the neck. Most newer bikes will also have a charging plug near the battery compartment so you just plug it in to a bike charger. And not have to pull out the battery or use alligator clamps. The plug will be female, and look like the #8
I am thinking about buying
Kelly's Bluebook shows the retail value of $1625 if the bike is in excellent condition. Please rate my answer. Thanks.
Over fill of oil
You did not post much info here so- If all you did was to put too much oil in the engine, then;
There is a drain plug on the bottom of the engine- Just drain the oil out, then replace the plug, and fill to the proper level. Be careful not to cross-thread the plug when putting it back in.
I removed the rocker cover
depending on the model there is often a couple of more bolts, sometimes down the chain tunnel sometimes from underneath between head and barrell
Engine shuts off when put
Well, by chance have you put the motorcycle in gear while the side stand is down?
Newer motorcycles have a safety switch on the kick stand if it's down it'll kill the engine as soon as it's put in gear, put the stand up and all is well.
I have a suzuki 650
This is because of improper float setting remove the carb again and check the float setting this will stop over flowing.

The valves are bent. Either that or the timing is way off, which usually results in damaged valves anyways. If you are not familiar with the inner workings of an engine you will need to take it in to a shop. Sorry about the bad news but there is definately damage in the head. Knocking indicated bent, worn or damaged valves and the backfiring is a result of the timing being off. The sound of the backfire is from the exhaust valve being open when the fuel is combusting.
If you have anymore questions let me know.
Good luck buddy and have a good day.
