Vfr 800 1998 earth problem

Are you sure the problem is actualy on the dash, problems in any system on the bike can cause failure of any of the items on the instrment pannel, you dont say what the actual problem is in relation to the dash, if you suspect the earth is a problem, eliminate it by running a new wire direct from the neg side of the battery or the engine to the green wire on the dash, if this works then you will have to do a continuaty test on the original green to earth make sure it is working. If no continuaty is present you may have a broken wire or corroded conection inside 1of the connector blocks

Honda VFR800 Fi 2000 W Reg LCD clock problem

The problem is usually a weak battery. When cranking, it pulls down the system so much that the clock resets. Try puting the batt on a charger and start the bike to see if the clock resets with a steady feed of voltage.
