My 2005 Honda Shadow 750
The slow circuit on one carburetor may be plugged. But bad spark plug caps could also be the culprit along with one plug being fouled. Try a squirt of carburetor cleaner in the gas line for the jets. Check the OHMs on the spark plug caps should be 5000 OHMs . If it is higher or lower replace the cap or cap/wire. Either the cap unscrews off the end of the wire or the wire is removed by unscrewing the cap on the coil.
I was on a ride.
Replace your right switch assembly. The starter button is a two position switch. Push it in halfway and the headlight goes out(more power to the starter). Push the button in all the way and the solenoid kicks in. The starter button is causing both problems.
Honda shadow 750 sputters when i try to rev it
easy fix. take your carbs off and rebuild them. at the very least clean out the jet screws. a carb rebuild would be best and most effective. make sure to change the feul filter as well. whenever one micron of anything gets into those things they just stop working. have fun and remember to disconnect the battery befor starting any big repair.
Headlight went out - both beams. where is the
Hi and welcome to the site,
Consider an alternate suspect. There is a hidden bypass switch for the headlight activated by the start button switch. Check, clean with WD40 the inside of the start button switch.
Good luck and thank you for asking.
My lights will not go
Hi.
Replace the bulbs and fuses, here below fuse box location. There are 5 fuses in there, replace them all (leave main 30A eventually), or test Ohms to see if they are good before replacement. If that does not work, then either wiring or switch is bad.
Loss of power at the end of each gear
If it continues to rev, it is probably not a carb problem.
I assume is has a wet clutch:ie the clutch runs in the engine oil.
Try an oil change, use a four stroke motorcycle engine oil,
Car oils have friction modifiers in them that can cause clutch slip.
and sometimes the expensive synthetic oils are just too slippery.
So try for a mineral oil, the bike shop will help you choose.
When I push the start
The button is supposed to turn off the headlight when pushed in halfway and engage the solenoid when pushed in the rest of the way. It is not supposed to engage the starter halfway but NOT all the way. I think the button is either dirty , shorting ,or damaged. You can carefully take it apart and try cleaning it . If that does not work, you will have to replace the switch assembly. New or used , either is fine as long as it works. Honda only sells the switch with the housing as an assembly.
No start
The starter button on a Honda does two things. When pushed in half way it turns off the headlight so there is more juice for the starter, then when pushed in the rest of the way it engages the solenoid going to the starter. It's pretty obvious that you need a right switch assembly. Or a good starter button removed from another switch assembly. Honda only sells the button as part of the complete switch assembly. Sometimes you can take a switch apart and clean the button contacts(I have done this) But you must work carefully so you dont damage or lose pieces.Sometimes the only option is to buy a different switch.Good Luck.
Headlight won't come on and starter won't work
Do the warning lights light up, will the horn make any sound? If not, I would look for a loose battery cable before doing anything else. There is a fuse in the system that may have blown, and I would check it next. These are the first and easiest things to check, but if they are OK, it's time to go to work or find a good mechanic.
Dies w/o warning coming to a stop. Restarts no problem.
First the obvious: are you slowing too much with the clutch engaged? You might try downshifting as you decelerate. Before doing anything more, you might add Marvel Mystery Oil or Sea Foam to the gasoline, according the the manufacturer's directions, and see if the symptoms disappear, which could indicate a dirty fuel system.
I wouldn't make any adjustments at all until checking my technique in deceleration, and trying a harmless but often beneficial additive.
Performance
1 - There are many possible variables here, such as added accessories, load, road, wind, etc., but the strictly stock bike will probably be the least stressed at 45 to 55 mph in 5th gear, although this engine is so understressed by design, that riding as fast as it will go is not likely to cause any damage.
2 - The ACE 750 has a loyal following of fans, and you can find them on the web by googling "honda 750 ace"; they know what works and what doesn't, and are more than willing to help.
How would I know if something was put in the gas
Extract a good sample +- 200 ML of gasoline into a glass (See through). Let it stand for 10 minutes or so. Oil is denser than Gas. It should be on the top if there is oil added to gas. Similarly sand particles will form on the botom of the glass and gas and water should not mix either. It would help if i knew what you suspected but that is basically the way to go about. DO NOT START THE MOTOR untill you are sure there is nothing in the gas.
What is the tire pressure for front and rear tire
The factory recommendation is 29 psig in both front and rear if you don't carry a passenger. Tire inflation must be appropriate to the load they carry, and some tire manufacturers specify higher pressures for their brand.
You probably won't go wrong with the factory setting, but for optimum performance, you might do better with more pressure.
How do I tighten the chain on my 2002 750 honda
You really should go to a shop to have it done, because it may be worn beyond service limits, and they can check that and the sprockets for wear.
But anyway, there should be some type of adjustment cams/bolts on the rear axle, the axle nut has to be loosened enough to adjust these on each side of the rear fork. Make absolutelyy sure the chain runs straight on the sprockets if you decide to DIY. The chain also has to have to proper amount of slack/tightness to compensate for the difference in the swing arm mounting point and the chain drive sprocket point axis.
