Wont charge battery
Take the battery to any auto zone or similar store and have it tested first. If the battery is good and yur bike won't charge it then the charging system of your bike is the problem and will require service.
1998 Honda Goldwing will not start nothing.
Sort of sounds like a Twilight Zone kind of problem doesn't it. I would have the battery checked for an internal dead short. This is something that happens on odd occasions and can happen even to a new battery. Yea, the little lights will work ( they do not draw much juice ), but the starter motor draws a lot of juice and a shorted battery just ain't got it. Also check the wiring harness connections. One loose connection can cause bunches of trouble.
Starter in a 89 Goldwing turns when not bolted in, but won't when bolted in..any suggestions?
this is hard to answer, but a few things to check
if the motor is not seized up and your sure your battery is good, not just charged, if you have a bad cell that mean you it wont sin the motor over, 3 to 5 years is normal for a battery but i have seen new one have a cell that goes back in a few months when the plates break...
if all said above is good, i say your starter is bad most likely the brushes or armature inside the case, they can be rebuilt, but better to just buy a new one there not that bad if you look around there are knock off that are half the price of a OEM starter
Reverse fails to engage
you must do the reversing in correct order :
Engine running, transmission in neutral. Press Reverse button. Then press the starter button. The starter motor moves the bike in reverse.
Remove goldwing fairing
your best bet is to down load a manual or go onto google and ask for pictures and maybe it will give you some ideas or even jog your memory they can only go on one way .
Where is the neutral safety switch on a 1998 goldwing
my neutral switch is a hit and miss. I'm just curious if it could be the battery. I let the bike sit tonight for a couple hours as I took parts off and turned on the battery the green light came on and then faded away. So I don't have a battery tester so I put it on charge and the lights is nice and bright so I turned the bike off put everything back and see if it will start so I can get to work. why would this happen sometimes and not others. Battery is 1.5 years old Decka battery. I heard replacing the switch is a big job and not a guaranty. thanks for the help
