1988 Shadow 1100 Clutch problem?

If you've used car motor oil in it, that could be your problem. Change to Shell Rottella t4 o4 t6 to see if that changes the clutch issue. Other than that, it's your clutch pack.

I have a 1988 honda shadow 1100,Ijust bought a new battery and it is charged up,go to start it it wont start until i hook cables from my car and then it starts right up..It does crank over without car

Hmm, this can be starter brushes. Engine needs lot of electric power for starter and plugs. If starter is bad, it takes all power and nothing left for plugs and you can"t start the bike.

Check sticky clutch plates (if sticky put them in engine oil over night) and the clutch slave cylinder operation.

10-15W Motul or 15-20W Castrol - Castrol it thiner, I do not know, if you have this oils there.

Description of the battery charge on a honda1100 98 shadow aero

You have a Stator and Magneto, they produce a 3fase ca 65-80V AC (usually 3 yellow wires come out of left side engine cover) You can measure the voltage between them, when engine ON. After there is a rectifier, which transforms AC to DC, and reduce from ca 80 V to ca 14 V, with what powers the battery. You can measure the battery charging on battery with V-meter, with engine ON, it should be 13,5 to 14,5V on the meter.

Honda shadow vt1100

Start the engine, after some time the radiator must be warm and later hot, then the fan must go ON, if not, you are short with cooling liquid or you have the air bubble in the system, you can let the bubble out if you unscrew the bolt on the thermostat housing which is under the metal cover on the front left side of gas tank, unscrew that (m10) bolt while bike running- slowly, when water drops come out, your system is full.

1988 Honda VT1100 Clutch problem

hi,might be able to help,there is probably nothing wrong with your master cylinder assembly,what has happened is that the clutch plates have stuck together,there are two ways to fix it,one is easy one not quite so easy,try the easy one first,what i normally do in this case is start the bike,roll down a hill or get someone to push you just to get moving,pull in the clutch,change up into second gear,to get the gear box working,change up into the highest gear you can(you dont need the clutch to change up)all the while you are still holding the clutch lever in,get up to a reasonable speed say 20-30 mph,keep the throttle open a little,keep the clutch lever in and start applying the brakes,it may take a few meters but the plates will let go and normal clutch operation should return,as the plates free up,the second option is to remove the engine cover dissasemble the clutch pack and free the plates manually,personally,i have always used the first method,sounds complicated but is actually very simple to do and will save a lot of time and frustration,give it a go first before you pull your bike apart,this is quite a common problem on bikes that have been sitting for a while..hope this helps..cheers
