1988 Honda CBR 750 Hurricane - Page 11 Questions & Answers
I have a 93 Honda CB750 Nighthawk Motorcycle, my friend installed headers on the bike and removed the stock exhaust. Now the bike runs rough I have to rev it up while stopped at redlights, should I replace the jets In the carburetors since the bike is now getting much more air, shouldn’t the carbs need more fuel, when I give it gas it sputters an coughs some, I can play around with the choke and it helps a little. The bike doesn’t act up as bad if I gapp the throttle and accelerate fast it kinda clears a little until I let off the gas. Should I replace the stock jets in my carburetors with bigger ones, and if so what size would be recommended. Thank you
Hi, just a few things to look at, first when the bike is at operating temp, take out a spark plug and see if the colour is verry light biscuity colour if so then the bike is running to lean and may need rejetting, if you rejet then its better that you just go up in sizes untill you are happy with the whay the bike runs, the other whay is some times when you change the exhaust thay thay do need to be rejeted and the people who sold you the exhaust should beable to tell you what jets you will need, just remember that the colour of the spark plug gives a good indication of the right fuel mixture, hope this was some help, all the best.

My Honda 450 Foreman is leaking fuel from the hose coming from the bottom of the carburetor bowl. Is this hose supposed to be connected to something? Or is the 1 way valve in the hose the problem?
This problem can occur on any bike that is carburetted and uses a needle and seat/float bowl system. Basically any bike that isn't fuel injected in other words. The reason fuel is being dumped is because it isn't getting shut off and is flowing past the needle/seat. The cause of this is one or more of the following. Dirt or foreign material interfering with needle/seat/float operation.....Worn needle and/or seat....Malfunctioning float due to leaking float...Is there any thing in the float when you shake it?......Lastly, and I cannot stress this point enough,.....Improper float level setting. This is a critical setting and must be set as accurately as possible according to manufacturer's specs. It is accomplished by bending the tang of the float which will control how much fuel will be in the float bowl when the float bowl is full. Think of a common toilet with a float mechanism because it is the same principle.
