Download service manual for 2001 Harley Dyna Wide Glide @

Hi, Craig, the vast majority of service, parts fiche, and owners manuals on the internet are "FREE" to download and all service manuals contain specs-fluid requirements and capacities and wiring diagrams in the back pages. Another "FREE" source is online libraries you can join for a one month "FREE" trial then cancel at the end of the month. The rest usually charge a modest fee from $15-$20 and there is a handful of obscure, rare, obsolete, and very old models that are no longer or never were available, for these rare occasions I shall look on eBay and find the cheapest one available. Most of the manuals will cover your exact make, model, and year otherwise one will be provided that comes as close as possible to your bike and will have most of the same info that an exact manual would have. If there is no $ sign after the manual link it is free to download view and print. To download your manual for viewing or printing please click on the blue links below. Why did my speedometer quit working and my miles start flashing?

You will need to check all supply voltages to the speedometer. It needs 12 volts supply and a good earth. Flashing electronics usually means a supply voltage problem or ground fault. If you do not have a volt meter or do not know how to use one, then I would suggest that you bring it to a competent dealer or local repair shop. Many electrical faults are blown out of all proportion due to poor fault finding practice and end up with huge bills. This fault should be found in less than half an hour with a voltmeter. By the way, it could be the speedometer itself.

2001 dyna wide glide won't start, even with charged battery

Minimum troubleshooting: Battery might still be bad, even though it's charged. A bad battery cell will fool you every time. Remove battery and take it to any auto parts shop. Always disconnect negative (ground) cable first. When reconnecting, connect positive (red) cable first, then negative. Battery clamp bolts should be torqued to 60 inch-lbs only. If you don't have an inch-lb torque wrench, buy one. Battery should test at 12.5 VDC. The load check should show 270 CCA. If the battery fails, replace it with a Harley battery only. Bargain brand will only give you grief. If it's not the battery, then you need to take the bike to a shop that knows what they're doing with electrical - most of these guys are barely qualified to change a light bulb. If you have electrical troubleshooting experience and a voltmeter, get the shop manual for your bike. It has a very straightforward discussion on how to use voltage drops to diagnose starting system and other electrical problems. Don't throw parts at the problem. If someone has recently pulled the clutch, then it's very possible that the starter jackshaft retention bolt has been over-tightened. Book value for torque is wrong. It should be no more than 15 in-lbs, otherwise the jackshaft can bind.

Fuel gauge is inoperative

Check for 12 volts at the orange wire on the fuel gauge. If missing check instrument fuse and associated wiring. If present do the following checks:1. Remove gauge. Ground Y/W wire of fuel gauge sender located at bottom of gauge. Turn ignition switch ON.a. Fuel gauge must indicate FULL. If gauge indicated FULL, gauge is functioning correctly and go to step 2.b. If gauge did not indicate FULL, proceed to step 3.2. Set MULTI-METER to resistance scale to measure the resistance of the sending unit. Place one probe on Y/W and the other probe on a good ground. a. If fuel tank is full, the reading should be 40 ohms. An empty tank should have a 240 ohm resistance. A half full tank will be pproximately 97-118 ohms.b. If a very high resistance or infinity is indicated on the meter, the sender may be "open" or not grounded. Check that sender and fuel tank are grounded by placing one probe of Multi-Meter on sender ****** and the other probe on crankcase. Meter must indicate one ohm or less. Replace sender if one ohm or less was present. If a higher resistance is present, check for poor connection on ground wire.

I turn ignition on and bike either goes dead or cranks itself.not all the time it is intermitten

Could be many things. If the charging system is not charging the battery fully while you are using it you may have a weak battery by the time it gets hot. If your battery is really good it may come back to a higher level of charge by internal chemical reaction alone when you let it sit for a while. If the battery is not so good it may be that it is not taking a full charge while riding and when hot is more likely to break down. You could have a faulty starter (field Windings) that will break down when hot. You could have a poor ground that is worse when the bike is hot and everything is expanded etc. You could also have somewhat corroded or burnt solenoid contacts. You could also have dirty, corroded or loose battery post and/or ground connections. VOLTAGE (OCV) STATE OF CHARGE of AGM Battery 12.7 V 100% 12.6 V 75% 12.3 V 50% 12.0 V 25% 11.8 V 0% Good luck if your battery ever gets down to around the 12.3 or lower state of charge. Remember that everything will be tighter and require more current to move/turn when it is hot.
