try looking at piston this sounds like a damaged for broken piston ring to me, you kick the bike then all of a sudden u get a back fire of air, failed piston ring 99%

When mine did this it was a spade connector which came loose - best bet to check and clean all connectors,
Optimate use seems to make it happen more so I'd start with all the connectors that you can see in and around the battery box

also check out raptorchapter 'dot' org 'dot' uk (for 650 and 1000 raptors) theres another owner on there with similar problem

cheers for any helpSeems odd normally like mine there is a starter solenoid?? I got odd starting problems, I think solenoid. You should have a big 12v in and out. The plug in centre should carry a signal from the switch to initiate the solenoid and give the starter its voltage. Try checking this with a multimeter. I also found the connections under the dash/behind headlights were SERIOUSLY corroded, could be worth checking.,,,

I can feel the starter motor clicking. So I took it off and pressed the ignition button and the starter motor was spinning as it should. I took off the left crank case cover removed the cog cover removed the cog and rod pressed the ignition button and the starter motor spun as it should. I attached the cog and rod, the starter motor struggled to spin. Is the starter motor working? Why does it spin with the cog and rod removed? Why wont it spin with the cog and rod in place?,You have stumbled on it - if you are describing the stud that protrudes out towards the front wheel where you attached the thick red wire with eyelet on it, then no - it should not rotate freely. Chances are when nut tightened previously it has been turning whole stud (which you mustn't) and so it has(possibly) twisted internal connection to the point of almost breaking. Is there a lock nut on the stud before you attach the starter lead? cos If you are lucky (and no twisting damage has been done yet) you could either replace missing (first) locknut and plain washer and carefully tighten down - mustn't overdo this and watch to make sure stud doesn't turn, or just tighten (presumably) loose locknut thats already there. then you can put starter lead on and then second locknut with plain washer and again, tighten down making sure stud does not rotate. Sorry to say, but tend to think it's the earlier option though.,,,

how are you with taken things apart?? cause what you have a head of you is a job. NEVER just replace one part, you are already taken the whole thing apart might as will rebuild and make it right.

No, first try and swap out your oil, oil lubricates the gears also in bikes. That is why it is very important to put synthetics in bikes. This should free it up a little if there were no issues before. This should be your first shot, it is the easiest. Then we can go from there, please rate my advice if you feel its helpful.

You have written some conflicting information. How can you know that your engine has no spark if it will not turn over? No problem, please write back and elaborate on its issue, symptoms, engine codes and things you have checked and tested so far. At this point I would start looking around. Inspect the battery and power distribution box. Check that the battery connections are clean and tight. Check that the ground cable, going to the body panel is clean and tight. Check all the fuses for damage (over heating or corrosion) and the same for the relays. Is the antitheft system working (does it recognize your ignition key?)? When you turn the ignition hey to the RUN position. Does the gauge cluster respond like it always does? Do you see the lights come on and go out and can you read the odometer mileage? Remove the side cover so you can have access to the stator. Then you will be looking for a notch on the inner case. Once you locate the notch you will line up the stator ( which also has a little line or notch on it ) with that notch.

Possibly depends if your model is still being made or find out if not when the style and looks changed after your year an usually you find bits like fairings exhausts etc are interchangeable from earlier models but not to disshearten you but being cagiva or aprillia you need the same year or atleast model from when it was started until next model changed hope it helps pal

Check the kickstand interlock switch. As deemed mandatory by the DOT.. all street legal motorcycles come with a switch in the kickstand pivot area that detects whether or not it is in the upright (or down) position. This is supposed to prevent riders from taking off with the kickstand down, which can ruin your day when the first left hander comes up- This switch will essentially shutdown the electrics to the engine once you attempt to engage first gear (in the down position)...These switches are fairly reliable but can fail. To test it, take a small jumper wire and connect the two wires (going to the switch) together.
