I am not sure though, but just check the bike's manual for a FUSE. It is because I too had a bike but not a good one and I had some what similar issues. I found that the Fuse in the bike has gone. If the fuse has gone bad then the bike will not run So try changing the Fuse. If you have any more questions you can have a look at the link below.http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://faq.f650.com/GSFAQs/Photos/FuelInjectorPhotos/ThrottleCableAdjust.jpg&imgrefurl=http://faq.f650.com/GSFAQs/custom_fixes_for_s_and_s.htm&usg=__iPXXYSkvsJBDslHiFDaPQm1SMUY=&h=600&w=800&sz=54&hl=en&start=13&um=1&tbnid=nbW6uz0JKRUyEM:&tbnh=107&tbnw=143&prev=/images%3Fq%3D2003%2BF650%2Bdakar%2Bbike%2Bbattery%2Bcircuit%26hl%3Den%26um%3D1They have discussed the topic in bottom of the page. K1200, remove engine sump guard, remove bottom sump (round) engine cover, insert oil cartridge filter removal tool and unscrew. Replace with oil lubricated new cartridge and reassemble.PS buy a manual.

Tip

Prevent an electrical short

There is a potential problem area in the wiring harness, just behind the rear shock absorber pre-load adjustment found on the right side of the engine. If you remove the adjuster and use an additional cable tie and some extra tape around the harness you can prevent a potential electrical short that typically happens as you are starting the motorcycle, burning the wires that go to the starter.

Need to know more.
For example, do you mean the shifter pedal will not move, does it grind, can you do it with engine off, etc.?
The reason is because a clutch problem is far more likely.
And is verified if you can shift when engine is off.
But how is the fluid level?
How is the clutch pressure?

If it really is the shifter, it can be hard to fix.
The pedal rotates a series of ramps that move actual shift forks back and forth.
Then there are the actual synchronizer rings, etc.
And then it could be the bearings the gears ride on, essentially causing 2 gears at once if a bearing locks up.

But assume it is the simple stuff first.

I don't know the bike but I doubt it is much different in principle than many others. The first possibility to consider is whether any immobiliser is functioning properly and is being properly disarmed before attempting to start. The owner's handbook would be a good place to begin...

Once you know the immobiliser is disarmed and power is flowing to the parts it is supposed to flow to, using the circuit diagram, the various supplies and grounds can be checked and using an oscilloscope check the output from the various sensors as applicable (crankshaft, camshaft).

Even though the bike has never been outside it might not have been immune from the effects of damp and condensation that can defeat many moisture barriers. It isn't unusual for electronic unit and sensor terminals to become dull, oxide coated and a barrier to current flow...

Easiest way would be to install a switch between the lights and the high beam switch. That way it would still come on only when high beams are on but you could turn them off. Alternately you could rewire them completely so they run only off of a switch, but then you would have to tun them on and off manually all the time. ---> expect to be pulled over for not dimming your lights when you encounter an oncoming police car and you forget they are on.
