my 1998 Dyna has a small leak or drip coming from petcock

my 1998 Dyna has a small leak or drip coming from a small nipple that sticks down from the petcock. Is it time for a enw petcock or will some other trick stop the drip?

Sounds like you have a hole in the vacuum diaphragm that opens and closes the petcock. This is one of the problems with the vacuum operated device. The other problem is that sometimes they don't open and you're left stranded with a full tank of gas and not a drop in the carburetor. I changed to a manual operated petcock. Personally, I'd rather have a Pingle petcock than another vacuum operated Harley petcock. If you do change to a manual operated petcock, don't forget to plug the small vacuum hose.

If you want to keep your vacuum operated device, I think you can buy a replacement diaphragm. You will have to drain the tank and remove the petcock. There are four small screws on the backside. Remove the screws and the backplate will come off. The diaphragm and a sping is all that is in that section of the petcock.

How to remove and replace a starter on a FXWG wide

How to remove and replace a starter on a FXWG wide glide 1980 Shovelhead harley

To remove the starter from your Shovelhead, first disconnect the battery and take it out of the battery tray. Remove the battery tray, two bolts that bolt to the oil tank and the rubber mounts. Take the battery cable off the starter motor and take the bracket that supports the rear of the starter motor off. The bracket is bolted to the transmission and the rear of the starter motor. Take the remaining long bolt out of the starter. Work the starer out of the starter drive housing. Do not allow the starter motor to come apart as the two long slender bolts that you removed also hold the sections of the motor together. The same when you install the new motor. It will come apart and unless you've got some experience in getting the brush holder back on the armature, it can be a problem. Don't let the motor come apart.

Hi Anonymous, it sounds the like starter drive/clutch has gone south, it has components inside, that when spinning, centrifugal forces cause them to grab or lock into permanently fixed counterparts. The gear only spins one way and locks the other way. If you have one that spins both ways it has failed and needs to be replaced. Please visit the web site below for more help and good luck.

How to bypass the bank angle sensor 2000 wide glide @

Hi, Bobbie a Bank Angle Sensor-Tilt Sensor-Tip Over Sensor are electrical components usually mounted around the battery area. These sensors shut down the engine when the motorcycle leans or tilts pass a specific amount of degrees from vertical. The degree angle varies from make-model-year but normally it's around 45 degrees. Recycling the ignition switch from off to on to off with the bike in the vertical position generally will reset the sensor so your engine will start again, you should refer to your owners manual for specific instructions if recycling does not work on your machine.
