2000 Harley Davidson FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide - Page 7 Questions & Answers
Why would my harley davidson 1998 dyna wide glide stop running after a short trip after being shut off for 20 minutes and restarted?
when it shuts down does it sputter first or is the shut down immediate without warning. sputtering is usually a condition of lack of fuel.any intake leak at the manifold especially at the head will cause "sneezing" out of the carb. Restart can be difficult and intermittent. A weak ignition module especially the adjustable kind can be unpredictable. a lot of the after markets are adjustable.A 1998 scooter tells me you have an Evo and being it's 16yrs old the likelihood of having a stock module is nil. check the plug where the module plugs to the ignition harness as well. Often times, because of it's age, these pins turn green or they either bend or they pull out just enough to break contact. I've also experience cracking of the wire insulation causing temporary short. shutting down the engine and difficult restarts. As with all jobs, check the simplest and obvious and don't start buying parts until you have checked all connections especially at the module where it meets the ignition harness.
My 1998 Dyna has a small leak or drip coming from petcock
Sounds like you have a hole in the vacuum diaphragm that opens and closes the petcock. This is one of the problems with the vacuum operated device. The other problem is that sometimes they don't open and you're left stranded with a full tank of gas and not a drop in the carburetor. I changed to a manual operated petcock. Personally, I'd rather have a Pingle petcock than another vacuum operated Harley petcock. If you do change to a manual operated petcock, don't forget to plug the small vacuum hose.
If you want to keep your vacuum operated device, I think you can buy a replacement diaphragm. You will have to drain the tank and remove the petcock. There are four small screws on the backside. Remove the screws and the backplate will come off. The diaphragm and a sping is all that is in that section of the petcock.

How to install turn signals on a 1999 HD Wide Glide
If it has wiring in place to power the lights and mounting locations, go buy some turn signal lights that will look good and fit the mounts you have. Connect the brighter colors from the bike wiring to the brighter colors of the turn signals and the same for darker colors.
If you buy signals with LED lighis, buy a 12 Volt turn signal flasher that is made for LED's--eBay has them. If you choose turn signals with incandescent bulbs (the traditional type), be sure each bulb draws 16 or 17 watts as other wattages will not allow a standard flasher to operate correctly--google the bulb number to find out. With other bulb wattages, the signals won't flash; they will stay on or not turn on at all as standard flashers are made to drive 2 16-watt bulbs; 32 watt loads. The good news is that the flashers made for LEDs will work with any type of bulbs or LED's, so go ahead and order one of the LED flashers to avoid trouble shooting the signals once they are installed.
Turn switch on and dash has power but nothing else
More than likely it is the ignition switch or wiring to it. If brake light or horn is working then check red/black wire from ignition switch for 12 volts. This wire feeds the headlight and ignition circuit.
Transmission problems
Since you haven't already pulled the case apart to have a look I'm betting you aren't mechanically minded, so best to take it to a mechanic and get him to fix it.
If you HAVE to do it yourself, get a good manual (or a good friend) and see what looks cactus inside.
Throttle cable
If you're not changing bar, just measure the length of the outer cable housing and get the same size.
The cable is held into the housing by a small spring clip that fits into a groove on the cable's ferrule.
With a small screwdriver, pick out the clip, and pull the cable out of the housing.
My harley fatboy 1340 has started runing rich after i changed the air filter
If the air filter is not obstructed and is properly oiled, then it should perform adequately. If not, try using the original filter. If the problem still exists, you will need to adjust the fuel/air mixture screw. Do not forget, there are 2 other adjustments... idle and an adjustment to the diafram when you blip the throttle.I can give instruction on how to adjust, but you should look that up yourself on the website of the carb maker.
