I am getting a gas leak out of the breather tube
Make sure that you have a fuel filter on your fuel petcock or add an inline filter to keep rust from holding a float needle open. The carburetor in question may have either has a sunk float or a bad float needle or both. If the offending carburetor also has the vacuum line from the vacuum petcock, you may need to rebuild/replace the petcock if the vacuum diaphragm is leaking gas directly into the manifold/carburetor. Take apart and clean your carburetors. Inspect the needles and diaphragms for damage and replace if necessary.
Gas is leaking out of
Sounds like you are talking about the over flow, or vent lines. These come from the carbs, and hang down toward the bottom of the engine. If you have fuel running out of one, it could be due to a float sticking in one of your carbs.
Ticking noise coming from motor
I have a 1981 suzuki gs850L I also have a knocking noise that appears to be coming from the motor i thought, however this is coming from the clutch be sure to check this out.
My battery in 1981 suzuki
Start the bike and put a voltmeter across the battery; you should get a reading of probably around 13.5V. If you're getting only about 12V or less, the battery isn't charging. From there you will need to go to the alternator terminal on the regulator and see if you're getting more than 12V. If you are, the regulator is probably bad, if not it could be a bad rectifier if there is a seperate rectifier or a bad stator. Good luck and safe riding.

Sounds like the carbs are set too lean and/or the floats are too low. Do you notice that the engine seems to get hotter than it used to? That is a definite indicator of a lean condition.

There are two possible causes. 1> one of the floats are sticking. Tap (gently) on the carb bodies to see if it stops. 2> The fuel petcock, which is vacuum operated when the engine runs, has gone bad. this will cause fuel to continue to flow when the engine is off.
If you haven't found The GS resources website yet, check it out. All I know I learned from the info and from folks on the forum. http://www.thegsresources.com
Too much gas flowing out of carbs
Over flow happens only when float is not working clean the carb and adjust the float change if needed and also float change needle valve (which controls float).

The reason for this is a float valve is sticking and the overflowing fuel is exiting the rear of the carbs into the airbox this will also leak through into the engine making it difficult to start the engine, if the bike was running fine when you last used it the value of the repaire would be depending on who you took it to and their labour costs which vary from place to place, as there are prob no parts involved and only removal and cleaning of the carb integrals, if this is a uk bike it is a reason for failure on the mot test, paul
1981 suzuki gs750. Replaced stator, wasn't
Have you checked the points? Be sure to clean the point contacts, also she may need a new condenser if it is not new (they break down with age). Did you clean the carbs? Did you mess with any adjustment screws? post back with what things you have done.
I need to know the
run a 10 amp fuse, if it blows start looking for a short. do yourself a
favor and rewire the fuse box to an up-dated box, glass fuses will only
get harder to find.
Good luck

1 and 4 cylinder not firing 2 and 3 are what could
Hi, easy fix,,your bike has 2 coils the first coil leads go to cylinders 1 and 4,,the second coil goes to cylinders 2 and 3,,so you need to get a new coil.
you will have to remove seat and tank,,the coils are located under the tank.
Hi, I have a 1981
This sounds like an air leak ahead of the carbs. Air that hasn't gone through the carbs is leaning the fuel/air mixture. Cracked rubber fittings, "O" ring seals, gaskets, and clamps between the carbs and the cylinder may not be sealing well enough. Note that a bad head gasket, bad valves or loose spark plug can also let air enter. The problem will get worse as time goes by. Do a compression check to check the valves.. Burned valves and cracked rubber seals are normally the culprits. Usually, all the valves need is to be re-lapped to provide a fresh face on the valve and valve seat. Check the site below for parts.

I have a recently re-built
I think what has happened here is that the fuel inlet valve on one of the carbs is leaking, this filled the crankcase with gasoline, that makes it very thin and it bunrs away the oil in crankcase quickly, is there any damage? Well that will remain to be seen, I have run my old GS550 out of oil once and it didn't damage the engine, that was due to the fact that the engine was a needle bearing crankshaft, this type of design crank needs very little oil to operate, just the spray from the engines moving parts will save it for awhile. If memory serves me the GS1000G also used needle bearing cranks. You may get lucky. In the future make sure the fuel valve to the carbs is turned off when the bike sits, this is really important on older Sazukes. Flush the crankcase out with clean oil, then refill and keep your fingers crossed.
1982 suzuki gs850 three of
not certain on some of your terminology, passage plug? and 40 jet?
if you mean the syncronizing plugs, where the gauges connect too, then the missing one has the hose for the vacumn fuel tap, but this wouldnt foul 2 cylnders
1 and 4, run off one coil 2 and 3 run off the other coil, if one of those pairs is fouling it could be electrical.
Need wire diagram for 1981
