Need to change the battery
When you receive a new battery unless you get it from a local dealer you will have to fill with acid before charging. The acid is usually supplied in a plastic bottle with the battery.

Cuts out while driving
If there was a change after you cleaned the carby, I would suggest that it is possibly dirt in the fuel line or water or other contaminants in the fuel tank itself. It may pay to drain the tank and flush out with cleaner. Most auto parts stores have carby / fuel tank cleaning sprays.

Can't get the replacement speedometer hub to sit flush (part donor & receiver both '12 49cc taotaos)
Hi, speedo hubs work in quite a few ways. 2 notches, 4 notches, rotating flange etc. Check the section the hub fits onto/into make sure the hub and its counter part are a mirror image configuration. See if turning the hub gently onto/into its counterpart will allow the hub to fully seat. I have had many problems with my Suzuki SV I have to make sure the hub and the front wheel speedo drive section are fully mated before refitting the front wheel.

Brand new taotao 50 scooter....every
Make sure it isn't a cable acutated disk brake. If it is, it is possible to adjust some slack into it. If the brake is indeed hydraulic, you wont be able to adjust it. A lack of brake fluid wouldn't cause the brake to drag. You could check for return springs and make sure the pads are seated into the caliper correctly. You could even disassemble the brake and use brake grease on the sliding parts. If the drag is very slight, I wouldn't worry about it; the drag will disappear within the first few miles especially if you use the brakes.

Battery location on scooter
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".
Initially, have to inform you, have not worked on one. Being in the Philippines most that I have laid my hands on are Japanese with a sprinkling of Italian but don't recall ever working on a French scooter.
Sorry.
Still as you posted "
Any advice...", allow me to do some guesstimate:
- most scooters would have the battery located low;
- would not be more than 50 cms away from the starter motor/engine;
- being a 125 engine, battery would have to be about 7A/H, a bit heavy, therefore battery holder would not be on any of the plastics, chances are to the frame;
- likely to be under the seat but there would be the helmet compartment, so maybe lower.
With the above assumptions:
- either under the helmet compartment front of the engine (but would have an easy access panel/lid; or
- under the footrest/floorboard.
Pls update how close or how far, curious myself. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy New Year.
Pls be informed that due to my current rank and rating, even a Helpful would
be detrimental to my status. Should this solution not address your
concern, it would be appreciated if you could just not rate it at all. Cheers.

Hi my brothers 125 thunder
Start with cleaning the air filter and a fresh spark plug. Tighten up the carb mounts at the carb and at the cylinder. If oil is on the head, cylinder or upper front center case, be certain the head bolts are tight. Check for hardened rubber fittings and seals between the carb and the head.
.
If that gives no joy, have a mechanic do a compression check. Chances are very strong the intake and exhaust valve need to be re-seated because carbon buildup on the face of the valves is allowing needed compression to go out the exhaust. You didn't say the bike was smoking so it sounds like the piston rings are okay. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

Think my spark plug needs changing. i have a MBK
in the top of the cylinder head! find the spark plug whire and folow it down to the top of the engine there you should find a cap that pushes over the spark plug
take off the cap and undo the plug (anty clock wise)
put in the new plus gently start it on the threds and dont tighten it up to tight,,(it only needs to be NIPPED UP) not done up with a 10 foot bar? or you could strip the threds out of the head,,,then you will have a big job on your hands to fix it
