Adjust timing chain
Well first u need to remove the top cover and get to the cam. Remove the two bolts holding the cam sprocket and turn the engine till its at the tdc mark on the alternator rotor.on the sprocket there should be two notches. These have to line up with the top surface of the head. Ie one of the bolts is up one down. Put the head cover back on and ur timing is set. Then if it is anything like my xl250s on the back rhs of the head there should be two bolts. The one at the top is a 10 mm bolt the one at the bottom is a 10mm nut. These adjust the cam chain tension. Start the bike. Warm it up and while idleing loosen both off NO MORE than TWO turns. Tighten them back up and there is your chain tension done. If it slips u prob need a new cam chain.
How do i time my
Hi, is this valve timeing or ignition, you are doing, anyway with the piston at tdc and the lower marks aligned on the caseing and the rotror, insert the camshaft into the head with the cam lobes pointing downwards so the valves would be closed, place the cam sprocket over the chain and locate the mark on the sprocket upermost to align with the cut out on the rocker cover, you may. Then have to flick the cain over the sprocket using a screwdriver until you align the marks exactly together, next check the lower marks have not moved and both the top and the bottom marks are alinged exactly with each other, next turn the camshaft slightly to align the bolt holes and fit the 2 sprocket bolts using a small amount of loctite or similar, tension the chain check for realignment of marks and rotate the engine using a spanner not the kickstart to check it rotates without obstruction, when you are happy it does then you can attempt to start the machine
How many time do you have to screw out screw on
Normally about ONE AND A HALF TURNS TO THE OUTSIDE is an ideal setting but you must notice the engine trying to smoothen out as you turn out and must stop at this juncture . Reduce the idling speed to match with the least vibration on the engine-- SMOOTH running.
Timing marks not lining up on xl 125 its either
When this occurs, the timing chain has stretched to the point where you'll never get the valve timing exactly right. I'd replace the chain, they're cheap enough (about 25 bucks) and I bet it will line up spot on. Have removed some Honda timing chains that were almost stretched a full link longer than the new one I was installing. Good luck!
I just changed my head
Their are 2 different top dead centers/TDC ,one is TDC of Exhaust stroke and the other is TDC compression stroke . You must have the TDC compression stroke . At this point -both valvesare closed. If it is TDC Exhaust stroke You will be @ a point where the Exhaust valve is just closed and the Intake valve is just opening. After you have established the proper relation of the crankshaft and Camshaft ,you must do ignition timing.

Ha ha .Are you from oz?The needle and seat in the carbies are stuck open.If the bike was ok beforehand and this just happened, there is some **** caught in the n and s.If the bike was sitting for a while, pull the carb off and give it a good clean.1st thing to try is to give the carby a whack. This may unseat any small **** and/or get the n and s to reseat itself.Hope this helps
How do i get the
NICE BIKE, AS FAR AS I CAN REMEMBER IT IS HELD ON WITH 2 BOLTS, UNDER THE REAR MUDGUARD, ONE ON EACH SIDE, REMOVE THESE BOLTS LIFT UP THE BACK OF THE SEAT AND PULL THE SEAT BACKWARDS AWAY FROM THE BIKE, THE EARLY ONES HAD THE BOLTS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE FRAME, IF YOUR SEAT HAS A PLASTIC BASE I THINK YOU WILL FIND THE BOLTS AS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED UNDER THE REAR MUDGUARD.
