1974 Benelli 750 Sei Questions & Answers
My husband owns a Benelli 750 Sei and would like
Hello, first remove the chrome cover over the starter, remove the left cover and clutch cable. Disconect wire from starter, remove the top nut and bolt and the bolt on the rear (sheet metal) starter bracket, pull starter straight out past the seal. Hope this helps, Frank
Stiff gearbox
I have a problem with gear selection its very stiff can not move the gear leaver with my toes has any member had the same problemthanksHi
What year is your SEI I ask because the very early ones had gearbox troubles and had to be changed over, but we had thought that everyone had been through this process now. It does sound like the selector fork,,,
Filter
Hi. If they are standard exhausts - yes I am sure the filter comes straight off. The oil filter equvalents are listed in the members area. Hope that helps
Carb removal
800Kms on the clock ( It still has the original tyres ). It has never been registered and the Kms were largely done with trade plates from a South Australian bike shop in the 70's before being relegated to the back of the store. The person I bought it from had it 9 years and did little with it.
I am not restoring but trying to fix the things needed to get it right and as close to original as possible.I need to remove the carbs to clean them properly. I am not sure which way the come out. It seems like I will ruin the old connection rubbers if I keep going the way that I am. What is the go?
Also did this model have metal spark plug caps and is there anyone out there with the original fuel hose set up for sale? RegardsI have to say getting the carbs out on the 900 is a bit of a pig. The rubbers tend to go hard too.
Not sure if this is exactly the same as on the 750 but what you can do is take out the battery disconnect the bits from the battery try and remove that, take out the air filter and its rubbers and then you have room to get the carbs back.
Alternatively, if you want to get them off without taking the air box out, remove the rubbers between the air box and carbs first - try and wriggle them back into the air box - you can rescue them later from the other side (take the air filter out). This should give you enough room too.
Hope that helps!,,,
Battery
maintenance-free battery for my 1976 Benelli 750 SEI but the suppliers I've contacted have no record of what model battery it takes. All the shop manual says is a 12 Volt 14 Amp Hour battery.
Anyone know of an equivalent battery of the right size that will fit say from a Honda CB750 or CB500 maybe?
Thanks! ,What you need is an AGM 20 Amp Hour battery to fit a BMW Boxer or K series. EG Varta 50814 (standard european size battery, not japanese),,,
Painting the tank
and am thinking of spraying them in the silver colour scheme. However did any other colour apart from red ever get imported,Apart from red and silver I know of at least two other colours - Green and a very 70's Turqoise (at least that's the best description I can come up with). I re-sprayed the green one I had to black, but still have the turquoise tank and panels.,,,
I need a wiring harness for my 1974 Benelli Quattro 500
Try some of the Benelli owners websites as someone might have one or there could be one being sold for spares. Personally I would consider getting a one made as new. There are companies out there that can build exact copies if they have the old one as a template.
