Sounds like its mid firing try cleaning the sparkplug or better still just put a new one in then your sure if that doesn't sort the problem check the timming

2stroke or 4stroke ? oil in engine or gearbox low ? 2stroke oil low ? if no oil in 4stroke then you will have damaged piston as it needs lubrication but it will have damaged the crank bearings/shells etc ! if 2stroke gear oil then gears and bearings will be damaged , no 2stroke oil will damage piston and crank bearings ! let me know more info and i tell you what to look for !
