Keeps burning up spark plugs
If the plugs are black, too rich. Go smaller on the jetting. Make sure the air filter is CLEAN. Are you running a good oil at 32:1?
1995 rm 250 blown water pump seal
Iv'e changed heaps of these.Follow these steps taking carefull note of where & how everything goes to make it easy to put back together. make sketches if necessary.
- Drain the coolant & engine oil
- Remove the hoses that go to the water pump
- remove the waterpump cover
- remove the impellor
- remove the kickstarter
- remove the clutch cover & locating dowel pins if they are still in the clutch cover(if they didn't stay in the crank case)
- the water pump seal is a (ceramic) two piece unit
- remove the ceramic disc & rubber holder from the back of the impellor
- remove the impellor drive shaft from the clutch cover
- behind the impellor drive shaft there is a small bearing. To remove this I heat around the alloy of the bearing with a heat gun (or butaine gas torch,if using an oxy torch use a small tip & take care to heat evenly & not melt anything/or heat in an oven to 80 to 100 degrees max)Use welding gloves to handle the hot clutch cover)
- turn the cover over & whack it down on a flat piece of wood(9 times out of 10 this is enough to shock out the bearing
- remove the back-up seal from behind the bearing you just removed noteing the direction it was facing(for reassembly)
- now using a suitable drift, knock out the other half of the mechanical seal
- scrape all the gaskets & clean the parts
- check the impellor drive shaft to make sure the shaft is smooth & dosn't have any groves worn in it.If it does you'll have to replace it
- I always fit a new impellor bearing & back-up seal & new gaskets when doing this job
- reassembly is reverse of removal noting the following
- to install the bearing & seals use a socket that matches the OUTSIDE diamiter of them so you don't damage them.To install the rubber cup & ceramic washer into the impellor DON'T use a drift just push them in by hand
- apply some grease to the impellor shaft before installing it
- Apply some soap to the ceramic disc before re-fitting it
- to install the clutch cover, if it won't go on at the front near the impellor, turn the impellor shaft to engage the gear
- refit kickstarter,waterpump cover,hoses
- re-fill radiator with fresh coolant
- re-fill gearbox with fresh gearbox oil
That just about covers it all
Hope this helps you

Hi there I have an
yes a fresh ring and hone will be fine as long as thgere is no scoring in the cylinder wall and it is round and not egg shaped. if you measure it in a few different spot you can tell. but i think you will be fine from what you said.
let me know if you have any more question. good lcuk
Do I need to split the cases to replace the main
Only the right case cover needs to come off. The clutch may need to come off also but only if it overlaps access to the seal. After removing the crankshaft drive gear and other small parts you then have access to the seal.Granted that it is limited access but should be enough to pry the old seal out. The old seal will be bent quite a bit during removal but that's okay. you have a new one on hand. You will need to work around the overlapping bearing.
Gear oil silver wear would water be coming in?
To have silver oil coming out might indicate a problem worth looking for.Silver is usually aluminium.Maybe a spun bearing or bush?If the oil was milky silver, water seal and possibly a g/box prob.Hope this is a good starting guide for you
I put a new stator on it when it stopped firing
Try unplugging the kill button and retesting for spark. Also, make sure you are starting with a brand new spark plug. Even a plug that looks good may be bad. A plug is the least expensive electrical component on your bike, don't chance it with a used plug.
Oil Check 83' RM 250
There is no engine oil. You put two stroke oil in a separate tank and it gets pumped into the engine depending on how fast the engine turns.
Blowing white smoke, no power, but runs
white smoke is coolant in the cylinder buddy you have either a blown head hasket or a cracked cylinder liner strip barrel and inspect its more likely blown gasket
How do I take out the reeds?
You remove the carburetor and then the rubber intake tube
the carb was plugged into. Reeds are inside.
If you have an older model you may have to remove the cylinder.
SPEED IDLE SCREW AND MIXTURE SCREW SETTINGS MY
ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher on hand when working on carburetors. Drain the carburetor. There should be a plug on the bottom of the carb float bowl. Remove the plug then replace it after the fuel drains. Remove the carburetor from the engine.
Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the air screw on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw hole as well. Be sure to put the air screw back in. IMPORTANT > do not tighten this adjuster down. Only screw it in until it LIGHTLY seats. Now turn the air screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.

Question about the bosh platinum 4
Stay with the proper NGK spark plug. Bosch plugs take a real high energy ignition system to fire properly. A bosch plug may cause starting issues and poor performance.
