kawasaki VN 1500 Vulcan Classic - Popular Questions, Answers, Tips & Manuals - Page 5

ok take the clutch maste cylinder cap off on the handlebars, get a ball of tissue and gently put it into the fluid it will soak it up,repeat this until its dry in there but make sure you dont drip it anywhere or it will damage your paintwork, also do NOT pull the lever in yet, then fill it 3/4 up with new fluid ,then put a spanner on the bleed nipple on the clutch slave cylinder on the left hand side of the engine ,then put a clear pipe onto the end of the nipple and get a small coke bottle or similar and make a hole in the cap which is a snug fit for the pipe push the pipe in then loosen the cap slightly so it can breathe, then gently pull the lever in and hold it in ,then undo the nipple until some fluid comes into the pipe then do it back up ,let the lever out and pull it back in and loosen the nipple again holding the lever again as before, repeat this until the fluid runs clean ,Make sure the fluid does NOT run out during this as you will be back at square one ,if easier get someone to keep an eye on the level and top it up when needed.good luck Adam.

Hi, Carl and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enricher.
5. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
6. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
7. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
8. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and module.
9. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
10. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty ignition coil, ignition module or sensors (MAP, CMP, CKP, O2 and/or BAS).
11. Security alarm needs a reset.

have a good look at the boot seals on the spark plug tops , make sure there flexible and in good shape with no craising or cracks
also ck were wires go into coil packs see if there might be a path for moisture to get inside there (clear silicone works wonders!!)
also I do believe these are fuel injected too, try turning key on for 30 sec then starting it , if it does ok then your fuel pump is wearing out .

The main Hi-Pressure cap is under the Gas Tank. You'll have to remove the tank to access it ... But there's an overflow reservoir with it's own cap behind the Right Hand Side Cover, just below the seat.

Bike has pulser coil on the flywheel that sends 1volt pulse to CDI that fires pulse to coils underneath tank. Secondary of coils fire across spark plugs. Check simple stuff first, bad caps on plug wires, etc

Hi Douglas there is no valve clearance listing in my books for this model which usually means they are hydraulic the only listing is for the 1300 Voyager which is 0,05-0,15 inlet and 0,15-0,25 exhaust. Hope this helps.

basically if radiator is very hot then the pump is working

It cant be found on the bike as they do not use a label system like cars do you will have to go to a motorcycle dealer and ask if they have the info or to a paint supply shop and get it colour matched . It really depends on how your bike was painted and what method as in finding a good match
