Where is the (vss) vehicle speed sensor on a 1991 VW cabriolet 3 speed automatic located?
NO PROBLEM told just wild goose HUNT (chase)
IS MPH GAUGE NEEDLE STUCK? OR JUMPS LIKE MAD.? NO SYMPTOMS TOLD AT ALL.
1991 is long in tooth car. (no county told)
NO ENGINE told ,25 engines world wide.
and super hard to find manuals on it as it was paper manuals only then (not digital)
on most old cars like that with just 1 transmission A/T the VSS (is speedo dead and transmisson VSS errors)
the VSS1 is on the tail shaft on newer cars not this car..
this car is FWd making parts hard to find and hard work to fix. (some jobs are super hard)
VSS is the road speed sensor for MPH or KMH cluster.
old cars with old old hyrdamatic (BINGO), does not ever need any VSS to shift to higher gears.ever.
FACTS, BASED ON PARTS SEEN REAL. 1991
THE CLUSTER IS MPH GAUGE CABLE DRIVE
SO THE VSS IS INSIDE THE CLUSTER
END STORY.

LOW PUMP PRESSURE IN IT ,VAST CAUSES ASK.
(AND HUGE LIST OF CAUSES AND TESTS)

Does 89 VW Cabriolet have a power or vacuum brake booster on it?
The subdued sound of a burst of air is a sign the vacuum servo or booster is functioning as it should. For most people most of the time a power booster and a vacuum booster are the same things - there are such things as various types of "power brakes" but they are in the world of specialised motoring and commercial and industrial vehicles.
I suggest you revisit each wheel brake and ensure they are all as the vehicle manufacturer intended and the front brakes are not dragging. If they are dragging when turned by hand while lifted on a jack something is clearly wrong. Try briefly releasing a fluid bleed nipple - if that improves matters the hydraulic system has residual pressure. If there is no improvement something about the brake isn't correct.
Once you have satisfied yourself everything is as it should be between the master cylinder and the ground you should ensure the brake pedal linkage is correctly adjusted and operating properly and finally before re-bleeding the hydraulics you should ensure a small clearance exists between the brake booster push rod and the master cylinder piston, about 8 to 10 thou inch is about right...
When I start my 1988
I would replace the oil pressure sending unit first and see if that corrects this.
1990 Cabrio water pump leaks on start
Any time ANY vehicle leaks at that weep hole, it's because the seal in the water pump has gone bad. All water pumps have this same weep hole in the same position to let you know the seal is bad. Makes no difference if it has a penny over the hole or not, replace the water pump and it won't "p" on you any more.

Where is sencer that is supposed to turn fan on
the sensor is the coolant temperature sensor and is mounted in the vicinity of the thermostat housing
It will have at least 2 wires in a plug , may even have 4 wires and the plug is square shaped
it tells the ecm via fuses that it is to energize the fan relay to run the fans
