to be totally honest here i would need to drive it and see it when it plays up ,and i do feel that the advice given was good advice ,but to diagnose it correctly it would have to be running rough to diagnose it ,i suspect the previous owner knew something was amiss and getting worse so sold it it quick .The problem could be a wiring loom problem with the plastic insulation breaking up in the loom or a dodgy connection ,even a faulty ECU ,Ask a local mechanic to have a look for you ans see what he says
I have one of those cars and personally, would not recommend it to anyone period...same year, with the 2.5l v6 and auto, it just hit 103,000 miles and its poor quality car, front end shakes with new tires, had to replace rear hubs which are same as a Ford Contour(also junk) there are alot of similarities to the contour... took it off the road and replaced it with a 1997 civic 5 spd with 169,000 miles...problem solved
Hi:
A little play is normal, but an inch is getting somewhat out of limits. The first thing to check is for play in the tie rod ends. If there is play in them, it can also lead to premature tire wear too.
take your car to autozone. It might be your alternator. It is better if you take off the alternator to have it tested, just incase it is a parasitic leak. This happened to my navigator 2 days ago. It was wierd because it ran fine when it was warm outside. But kept killing by battery when it was cold!
starter replacement itself would not effect transmission, check that transmission cooler lines to radiator were not loosend or damaged changing starter.place a piece of cardboard under vehicle to help pinpoint leak.
