My car was slow to turn over yesterday then wouldn't start at all. After bump starting the car and letting it sit on a battery charger it was still slow to turn over. Today I replaced the battery and now it won't start at all. Is there something special I should do now? My repair manual says it should just turn over.

You’ll have to check amp draw on the starter, it may be bad ornaolenoid has quit. All auto parts stores have a little hand held machine to check this but I’m not sure if they’ll let you borrow it to take it home, if the car can’t make it rob the store.

SOURCE: 2003 BMW 325xi won't start, dashboard and radio go on.

My 2003 325xi died on the highway a few weeks ago, and I thought it was the battery. It turned out to be the alternator, which was an expensive problem to repair. If your battery is new, it could be the alternator, or a problem with the electrical system. I find the BMWs to be too complicated electrically, which often leads to problems! I'd check your alternator...

This is likely having to do with the starting circuit. Have the glow plugs and circuit tested. The glow plugs can easily be tetsed for "proof positive" failure. Let me know what else I can do. Great little cars.

SOURCE: I changed the key batteries

stick the key in the ignition, turn it to the on position, remove it within 5 seconds, then hold the unlock button down and press the lock button 3 times within 10 seconds and release both buttons. The doors should lock/unlock to give you confirmation and your key should work.

Hi.

If it does turn over and electrical works, then the problem is unlikely the battery. You can try jump starting. If it cranks when jump-starting it may be a weak battery, starter motor or alternator, but I don't think that this is the problem.

Check if there is spark on all cylinders. Do a code scanning (this car is OBD1, you will need to do the scan at the dealer place or to find a BMW OBD1 tool- Universal OBD2 scanner will not work on a 1994 BMW). If the codes return misfire or mixture related errors check fuel pressure, check sensors and parts that determine the mixture (MAF/MAP, AIT, O2 sensors, IAC and EGR system), check the vacuum system for leaks and check the crank sensor.

Regards.

AC/Heater Blower Fan in 1990 LS400 works intermittently

Due to the age of your vehicle, the brushes in the fan motor are worn out. you will have to replace the fan motor, it is not serviceable.

Car would start but wouldn't stay running. now when i turn the ignition, instead of turning over it makes a strange sound and a little bit of smoke came up from around the battery somewhere

I think you mean "idle".
If you have not already, remove the battery cables and clean the battery posts.
Let me know if it still does not crank.

My 2007 dodge charger didn't crank so I jumped it

A battery from 07 is still decently new to be that bad, but I would check the alternator first, just get the car running and unhook the positive cable from the battery, if the car dies the alternator is bad.

My 1999 Toyota 4 Runner wouldn't start recently

You either have a defective battery or the battery cable or cables have acid intrusion that has "wicked" inside the cable and this causes a bad connection, the only fix is to replace the cable or cables, this problem is mostly limited to the positive battery cable because of the current flow direction. So 1st have the battery tested and see what it shows, almost any of the many discount auto parts stores will test the battery for free.

I have a 2006 Dodge Charger. Went out yesterday, car started fine. Got home and stooped at my mailbox, when I went to start the car it wouldn't start. I did notice the lights on the dash would go dim...

I'd start with a battery first. Sounds like the battery has 1 or more dead cells in it. the battery may have all the volts you could want but if it doesn't have the proper amperage it won't crank the motor. You can have the battery load tested for free at Auto Zone or Advance Auto. A simple down and dirty test would be to disconnect the Positive cable and jump the vehicle by connecting directly to that and a good ground on the block. The motor should turn over as long as the vehicle you use as a jump has the proper amperage in it's battery. If the vehicle starts then it is the battery, if it doesn't then you need to look at the starter and other components.
