I can almost assure you its a rear wheel hub bearing. It will have to be replaced at a shop...Job will cost about 4-500.00 bucks..The s types are notorious for this. The bearing will usuall make the noise as you go into the corner turns and if you turn in the opposing side wheel the sound will go away until you go into a straight line. They will usual take a stethascope while the car is on the rack and place it in drive to pin point the bearing.Good luck..

2005 mini cooper has loud humming noise from rear when driving above 40 mph. Any suggestions on what this could be

I had a similar issue and it ended up being a broken wheel bearing. I even ended up having two, one was broken on my front passenger side, and one broken on my rear driver side. The part costs about $280.00, but could cost around $400.00 with service repair. The noise of a broken wheel bearing can sound like a humming, and over time it becomes louder. The car can be driven with a broken wheel bearing, but doing so can eventually lead to other wheel/tire maintenance. MINI's endure this commonly due to their low profile to the ground. Here is a forum on further issues experienced, including the bearing, and efforts towards recalls. http://newmini.wordpress.com/2009/02/17/mini-cooper-power-steering-failure/#comment-884

Noise coming from the rear end of my 2004 honda pilot it really only occurs during cold weather and after it warms up you hear it slightly

When does the noise occur, while driving only, or driving and idle, in gear, or in neutral and park? If it occurs all the time (while driving and at a stand still in cold weather) it could be the fuel pump. If it occurs only while driving, it may be a wheel bearing. Describe the noise (humming, grinding, whirring, etc), and what is the mileage on the Pilot? Answer my questions so I can fine tune my answer. Thanks!

Rear end noise On a street rod

It could well prove to be a big job? by the sounds of it I would get it to a Jag dealer or indi Jag garage to be looked at properly.
It might mean that you need a new or second hand IRS unit.

1999 GMC SAFARI VAN REAR END HUMMING

This rear end needs to be replace or re-built

This rear end needs to be replaced or re-built. The gears and or bearings are worn/shot. May be able to get a complete rear end from a Junk yard for much less, one in good condition. Good Luck
