Temp goes up and down

Heating coil went out and steam up the window and water came in the car on the floor now temp goes up from 213 to 245 and it use to be 190 to 212 before this problem. since it's hot we bypass the heating coil and put the little kit in there until the winter when i will replace the heating coil and i change the thermostat and i still hot but not running hot yet what should i do i have a northstar motor in it.... I have a 97 Deville that has bad overheating problems. I had the wire to thw fan relays replaced, fans now work, but I drove it about 10 miles and it severely overheated. added coolant and drove back and overheated again. As I was driving had temp display on and for a while it stayed around 208 but then shot up off the scale.
I was wondering if the radiator could be clogged or if there is a sensor and valve that is in the cooling system like on Olds Intrigues. There seems to be no coolant flow.

Check for leaks in water lines, chack also for bad hose joins that can leak violently when water pressure goes up.

Check the water is not been consumed inside the engine because of a faulty head gasket, you see white smoke from exhaust when this happens.

Ensure radiator and radiator fan are working and water pump and water circulation are fine.

Are you sure that your not having a head gasket issue? It could definitely have something to do with the radiator. How often did you flush the coolant? How long have you had the vehicle and how many miles are on it? I will assist you further as soon as I have more info.
Thanks,
Lee

Get the water pump checked and the radiator.

  • Anonymous Sep 01, 2008

Do not over heat the engine as it could lead to burned out gasket. Before all these check for if any water is coming through the silencer.
get check the water pump / thermostat / radiator and coolant level.

I have a 1993 mercury' marquis. The floor boads of the front part of the car get hot. And the thermostat keeps falling to c and rising to half way and falling on gage. Can u please help?! Thanks

possible no water in the engine and it is overheating
this is indicated by the temp gauge rising and falling
temp gauge sender units need to be immersed in water full time to get a reading so if it goes up that is in water and when it falls back that is in nothing or steam
hot engine would account for hot floor

HELP ASAP , OVER HEATING

you need to have the system check for pressure-it should be about 17psi -if it goes higher you have a blown head gasket which is blowing the coolant out of the system-or you might just have a radiator cap which is failing to hold pressure-up to 17psi- also youmay not be getting all the air out of the system and have an air pocket which will get super hot and steam the antifreeze- have the system vacummed down and the antifreeze will be sucked back into the system eleminating the air pockets-so you have a few things to look here-Ihopr this helps-Denny

thermostat sounds like it is stuck and are you running coolant or just water if just water replace with mostly coolant as water rusts the thermostat open or just not opening enough under pressure

Changed temp sensor engine check light still on. Over heat gauge erratic and moves to the right.

Get an oven thermometer, run the car untill the check light goes on, using a multilayer rag slowly open the radiator cap one notch. If if the cap wiggles loose & no steam comes out , you can fully remove it. Put the thermometer into the liquid coolant , if temp is 180 F (+- 20), the problem is electrical. If steam comes out its a cooling system problem. Use commonsense in doing this. Probably the gague is faulty.

Car temp goes up as I drive then steam out the over flow tank, temp never come back down until car off.

I would check the thermostat. Probably locked up. Ordinarily, this is a cheap fix.

The temp gauge reads correctly for a while then it starts going from cool to hot faster the water can change temp. I have changed the sensor

try the thermostat, located on the top radiator hose. top side of engine. also does it steam?? does it lose water but no leak, does the heat blow hot? if your heat isnt hot and it steams and loses water you may have a cracked head or head gasket. if you have heat, doesnt lose water and doesnt steam it may also be your water pump. most pumps will leak visibly from the weep hole when running

I have a puddle of either freon or water in the passenger side floor board, i was told it was the heating coil. what could it be or where is the heating coil.

You have water on the floor. Freon would have boiled away immediately. I think it is AC condensate that should be draining to the ourside of your car probably through the firewall. Find the drain and make sure it goes through the firewall and it is not blocked.

Thanks for your question @ FixYa.com

I have a 2001 ford taurus and the heat wont work and the temp guage will go up a little bit and go down could that be a heater core or something else.

if it was the heater core it would be leaking in floor board.if temp goes up or down that means your low on water or your thermostat is bad

Overheating problem

looks like you have done everything but the problem with your car is that the cylider head gasket has gone have a look at the dipstick or remove the oil filler cap if it looks like mayo then 100% head gasket has failed you said no water on the floor so it must have gone into engine only way this can happen is head gasket failing, if you have put lot of water in to the cooling system then your sump will be full of oil water mix.
