Can anyone help me with some issues I am having with my car. Its relating to the gear box (Auto) I dun very much trust most of the work shops the soluction is to change the gear box which I believe is not required. I had an accident recently and its a third party claim, and after collecting my car a week later I found out the reverse gear does not work but the normal gears still works, and this workshop is say its high time I change my gear box, which I believe is not really the issue. Can someone tell me will this bad inpact (accident) I had on my rear would have caused the gear box to come to this sitiuation. please help me on this I am not going to spend the money just becos some mechanic tells me its wear and tear. if its the cause of the impact the third party should be responsible agree with me anyone? your honest reply to this really appreciate. [email protected]
It is a front wheel drive vehicle and the impact of the accident could cause the trans mission control module to go into fault. to be honest if your vehicl was fine before the accident and now it doesn't work. the party responsible should have to pay. now i'm not a lawyer but common sense says that your trans mission is not working like it should. however unless i were to inspect it it would be hard for me to determine what is the exact cause. when you take it to a shop and ask them alot of questions not all mechanics are con artist. there bare alot of good peolpe out there that with be honest with you. they will hook it up to a scan tool and find out what is wrong with the trans. i'm sure during impact that the main computer threw codes and they will show up on the scan. hope this helps you. please rate this...thanks

no country told and is a super key factor on scan tools , got one?
we can scan all ours (USA) 1996 up every one.
tranny fails hot and cold
tranny filter ok?
if the PCM sees solenoid errors. (scanned) it will not upshift.
if the PCM seen speed sensors fail it can not upshift.
need I go on there are 50 more cause.
but most are leaking seals in the box and the poor atf pump can not handle that.(most boxes die of this latter end of life event)"
internal leaks)
steps 1 to 5
1: fuses good
2: levels good. hot in park, idling
3: scan the PCM for TCM errors.
4: check shift linkage for bad.
5: to the pump port pressure tests PRNDL per the service manual
above asssumes engine is good,is it? not weak as a cat or in silly
TBW limphome .(limited) scans tell this ,why skip scans/?
Make sure you don't have your overdrive accidentally turned off. Also, make sure you have checked your fuse box. Sometimes these things can be related and fixed just by simply replacing a fuse.
Other times, your gear shift may not be properly aligned and it can cause your issue as well. This one would be a dealership or a trusted mechanic's area of expertise.
It's a transverse engine, so the diff will be integral with the gearbox. Have you checked the gear oil level? If it's truly gone, you could pick one up on ebay for £150/180.
Most dealers repair operations are not to be trusted. They make the brunt of their money on repairs and parts and will do and say just about anything to increase business. Get a few more more diagnosis from other repair outfits and then decide.
the problem could be as simple as needing an oil change in the transmission. If the mechanic did not read the fault codes the take it somewhere else and have the codes read as a fault if there is on will have left a code. That will tell you what the problem is and will probably save a lot of money as the next thing that mechanic will be telling you is that you need a new box.
Or it could simply be a ground issue, that's often the cause of a p0880 code. Also check the A/T harness itself for damage or missing pins. Grounds are next to the fuse box on the driver side, and one under the air box. Connector is next to rise box.
