It is possible that you have a locked up pulley, the most common pulley to lock is the a/c compressor, I would advise to remove the belt again and spin all of the pulleys by hand, the crankshaft will not spin and the power steering will be difficult to spin, but all the others should spin easily by hand

Changing alternator on 99 dodge ram truck 5.9L engine...anything I need to do before loosening the alternator bolts?

always take the negative battery terminal off to avoid shorting the charge wire. Next, remove the serpentine belt by twisting the tensioner loose. Then you can remove the alternator bolts. Let me know if you have more questions.

How do i change a alternator for a escort van 1.8 diesel van

This is for a 1999 1.8 Diesel 55 Escort Van.

You have to remove a few parts but its not a major dilema. Almost all work needs to be carried out from under the van, so it needs jacking up.

1. Disconnect battery. Loosen bolts on FR wheel, jack up high and take wheel off. MAKE SURE HANDBRAKE IS ON AND WORKING!!!

2. Inside the wheel arch is a cover that goes over the alternator, three bolts to remove.

3. From under the van you will see a tension wheel keeping the belt tight. It requires a star shaped fitting to loosen, if you dont have one you can use a small ratchet piece that grips it.

4. Once belt is loose remove the two nuts holding the tension wheel in place. Keep to one side and remember how it goes back.

5. You now have access to the three bolts holding the alternator in place. Its tight and a little tricky but persevere and they will come out.

6. Wiggle the old unit out, unbolt the two wires on the alternator, bolt back onto the new unit.

7. Do the rest in reverse. When putting tension back on the belt do not over tighten, belt should just feel firm.

Remember to connect the battery again! And use a volt meter to test battery. You should get around 14v with engine running.

Done.

How to change an alternator belt for a 96 chevy cavelier

go to http://www.mvreader.com/multiview/dayco/index.php?bgInterchange=1&l=n

They have diagrams for the routing of the new belt..
As for actually doing it.
1. you need to release the tension idler to release belt. This can be done with a simple ratchet, its spring loaded so it takes some muscle.
fit the new belt in the correct routing from the website i gave you and there you go.

Does anyone know exactly how to remove alt from 94 Diamante SOHC

I just did an alternator replacement on my 93 Diamante, and it is a doozy. I'm a professional mechanic and I have quite some experience with this kind of stuff too. The alternator will not just come out, even after removing the belt / bolts / axle (for access).

The trick is to push the now loosened alternator up and back then turn it 180 degrees so that the pulley side is inward. then you can work it out if you properly use the shallow depression in the **** main beam while avoiding the chunk of aluminum that protrudes from the engine block near the timing belt cover. At first you will swear it cannot come out. You can also use a prybar to GENTLY push up the motor between the subframe and the oil pan. Do not push hard. The alternator will come out if you wiggle and jiggle it.

I used a lift and had complete access to this area and it was still horrible. Good luck.
