I have a 2000 S Type with 100,000 miles that I bought about 4 months ago. Within 2 weeks of purchase, the Failsafe engine light kicked in and went straigh into "limp home mode" I did some research and disconnected the battery, put some throttle body cleaner in it and the problem seemed to be fixed. A few weeks later it kicked on again, but this time it came on intermittengly and never went to the Amber light and Limp Home mode. About 4 weeks ago, I went into limp home mode again. I tried the same tricks but with to no avail. I took it back to the lot where I bought it, explained the situation and they said they cleaned the throttle body. 2 days after I got it home, it went into limp home mode. I had it towed to where I bought it and after taking the car to their own "specialist" they took it to the dealer and there it sits. HELP!! I really dont know anything about cars and am scared that on top of the 135$ just to look at the car, the dealer is going to want hundreds to fix it!!! Any thoughts on what it might be?? I have 3 little kids and drive 50 miles round trip for work... I cant afford ot be stranded anywhere!!!!

The best thing to do is to have the car scaned with the diagnostic computer to see what fault codes are stored.
acording to the fault code you'll be able to work out what's wrong with it.
I'm sorry i ca't be anymore helpfull.

Have a 1996 Lincoln towncar...it shut off on the highway the engine locked and the battery is dead but I just purchased it 2 months ago and the oil light is on I checked the oil and there's none. Can...

Lets start at the beginning.
If the engine is locked now, and you drove it with no oil in the oil pan, the engine is probably toast.
You could have it rebuilt, but it would be cheaper to get a used engine if you can find one with less than 100,000 miles on it for a reasonable price.
You are talking about spending $1500 or $2000 to get a used engine installed and the car is worth around $2000 in good condition.
The question would be, how long do you think you can drive it after it is fixed ? Two or three years to get back that investment ?

How often should i change my oil in my 2008 Lincoln Navigator?

The people that make replacement engines say 6000 to 7500 miles. I never let any vehicle go over 4500 and usually 4000. There is a time thing too, 4 months to 6 months.

If you drive 3000 miles in a 2 week vacation its different than 3000 in 4 months of stop and go driving. I have owned over 55 vehicles, mostly used and have never had any engine failure and regularly put 100,000 miles of my own miles on used vehicles.
I use Valvoline, GTW, and sometimes Havoline.

Oil light flashing, last oil change 7 wks ago

I belive they didn't reset the oil light timer. I belive the sequence is 1. key on (not acc with engine off)
2. step on the brake pedal 5 times within 10 seconds. 3. key off. 4. start car. 5. check if the light went out. you may have to try it a few times to get it.

I have 2002 audit quattro TT with 180k miles. When I do a normal acceleration the car surges and rpm drop but pick back up. If I accel hard it runs fine. Also at idle at times it varies 200 rpm like a

this sounds similar to a problem i had. as the rpm went over 2000 the engine would stop for a split second and then kick back in.
after a few days looking my garage finally found the problem was a faulty air mass meter.
this cost me £200 in total to be repaired.
