Question about 1984 Toyota Pickup Deluxe

1984 toyota vacuum line diagram needed. There ia a vacuum leak which is causing the engine to surge. We previously replaced the exhaust manifold and head gasket. Not sure of the sequence of the vacuum lines 2.4 liter engine pickup

Random vacuum whine from the engine compartment


Most likely it is a vacuum leak or if you or you have had some one working on it has crossed a vacuum line, also back on the intake and exhaust manifold and around the turbo you will have a couple of vacuum controllers and if they have cracked or broken then that as well will cause the noise. There should be a Vacuum diagram in the engine compartment use it to follow the lines, this will allow you to track down the leak, inspect all of the lines they are bad to crack . Also you should check the belt pulleys and belts to make sure that one isn't going bad. it will help to have someone to assist for tracing down the vacuum lines are or can be tedious and they can rev the engine while you search.

Wont idle


I had an '87 Celica doing the same thing and it was an intake manifold gasket that wasn't sealing-pulling in a lot of air. A lot more than a vacuum hose leak, which would only raise the idle a bit, but not cause the surging you are having and that I had. So check for a large air or vacuum leak. A rip or hole in the large intake boot may also be the source.
To check the manifold gasket, get a spray bottle filled with water and have someone keep the engine running at around 2000 rpm or higher. Soak the area all around the intake manifold gasket, wet it down pretty good. If any leaks are there, the water will get sucked in and cause a noticeable stumble in the engine, may even try to die. Check all hoses for vacuum leaks too, the large hose to the power brake booster.
If it's not a vacuum leak, try unplugging the MAF sensor and see how the engine runs. If it settles down, clean or check the sensor.

ENGINE IS SURGING AND WONT IDLE


The MOST LIKELY cause of an engine surging and refusing to idle is a vacuum leak. Check all vacuum line connections. You can also pinch rubber vacuum hoses off one at a time near the intake manifold to see if the engine idle changes, - don't forget to check the hose to the brake booster. If pinching off the booster hose fixes the running problem it is possible that the booster itself is leaking if you can't find any leak in the hose.

You can check for vacuum leaks at the intake manifolsd gaskets and throttle body base by squirting some carburetor cleaner around these areas. If you spray this into a vacuum leak area, you will hear a change in engine RPM.

Almost always caused by a vacuum leak, look for a damaged hose, or one that has become disconnected. It can also be caused by a leaking intake gasket or a leaking exhaust manifold before the O2 sensor.

Check for a vacuum leak in the vacuum assist diaphragm. A leak can allow far too much air into the intake manifold, causing an increase in engine speed.

How do i test egr system on 93 toyota camry


Testing steps:

  • Remove the vacuum hose on the top of the EGR valve and plug it.
  • Connect a short hose to the EGR valve.
  • Start the car.
  • Now **** on the hose, or use an appropriate tool to apply suction to the line
  • this will open the EGR valve the engine should stumble and try to die.
    If it does the EGR valve is working.
There is an "Exhaust gas manifold pressure sensor" that measures the exhaust gas flow to the EGR valve. The problem is the sensor itself becomes clogged with exhaust carbon and gives the computer a fixed false reading, the computer in turn sends too much vacuum to the EGR valve and the engine runs rough, surges and may die.

CHECK ENGINE LITE ON CODE IS VACCUMM LEAK--WHAT SHOULD I LOOK AT FIRST? AND HOW DO I RESET THE LITE


If you have a vacuum leak, lift the hood and listen for a whistling sound. If none detected, gently move the vacuum hoses and see if your motor surges or starts to die. Last resort is using carb cleaner spray. Sparringly, spray quick, short bursts in and around vaccum lines. Never spray alot at once and not over and over. Let the spray evaporate. This may lead you to the leak by being patient. Engine will surge when you are close to the leak.
HAVE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER HANDY. ALWAYS STAY CLEAR OF HOT PARTS-NEVER NEAR EXHAUST MANIFOLDS.
