I JUST BOUGHT A 1999 316I BMW BUT I NEED A MANUAL TO GET FAMILIAR WITH THE DIFFERENT SENSOR LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD

Fist get an owners manual. It will have most of the lights ID'd. Also Haynes manuals are pretty good. You can download them online at Haynes.com . The gold standard is the manual by Bently publishers. I found it helps to have both the Haynes and the Bentley manuals.

the coolant level sensor is at the bottom of the raidiator, ther is an electrical wire going to it so you sould find it easily.

Check to see if your brake pads and rotors are in good condition. Or if you have replaced the pads yourself and have not reset the wheel sensors this would cause the ABS Antilock Brake System light and the ASC Automatic Stability Control light to stay on as the ASC uses the ABS brakes with computer assistance to control the car

If your temp and fuel gauges are playing up then check ALL the fuses under the bonnet. My brother in law's 1998 381Ti compact started playing up with the fuel and temp gauges swinging about like they had a mind of their own. Turned out to by the rear brake light fuze....

Remove the fill plug on the case of the transmission, the fluid should be just below the lip of the plug opening.

Coolent light has come up on dashboard.what does it mean.

not that familiar with bmw's to know if you have a separate coolant LEVEL light as well as a temp light. so, if you have both then it is a level sensor tell you your coolant is low. add a mixture of 50/50 antifreeze(you can but this at most any auto store) to you coolant overflow tank. run engine until it is warm and then let it cool off. *** it cools it will draw coolant back into the radiator until it is full.it may take more than once to get it full. when you are full you should have about 1/4 of the overflow filled when the engine is cold. If you do NOT have the second light then it is telling you the engine is starting to overheat, which is for the same reason just more critical. do the same thing but make sure you do not have a busted hose or other leak, and that your engine is not putting out white smoke. if either of these then let me know. otherwise it is probably just evaporated over time.

BMW 3 Series light on dashboard comes on ....triangle with a circle arrow around it orange light

If the triangle has an ! in the middle of it then it's to indicate that DSC or DTC is on for stability.

Theres a module called airbag restraint control module that should either be under your center console or under the hood. Have the wires or that module checked for any trouble codes. Your crash sensors may have been disabled as well.

A few things to check.

Is fuel pump delivering enough fuel.
Is injectors clean. Perhaps dirt in fuel. replace fuel filter
Air leakage at top air intake of manifold at ICV idle control valve. Two hoses inside this housing prone to perishing.
Throttle position sensor faulty.
Mass air flow sensor faulty.
ICV faulty or dirty. comon fault on older e36.

Havent done it yet but ICV is easy to clean according to internet. instruction available at bmw e36 blog. All off above can be tested by yourself according to manual.

Dashboard light on not sure it's meaning

Hello!

A sign like this indicates that your parking brake pads(shoes) are worn, and are in need of replacement.

A sign like this

indicates that there is problem with the ABS system (can be anythig from a faulty wheel speed sensor to a burnt out fuse)
A non functioning ABS could bring the tires to a lock up during extreme braking which could be rather dangerous.
