More than likely the A/C compressor has failed and the clutch is doing it's job isolating the compressor from the belt when the A/C is off. Leave the A/C off and get your dealer to quote you on flushing the entire A/C system and replacing the dryer, the valves and the compressor/clutch assembly. A failing compressor often spews little chips of metal into the A/C system contaminating the dryer and the valves in the process. A really bad compressor failure may even clog the evaporator. It will NOT be cheap but it will fix the problem. Avoid the cheap A/C recharging kits found at Walmart and "auto parts" stores. IF they appear to work at all it is temporary and they contaminate the system even more; often requiring complete system replacement by contaminating the lubricating oil in the compressor.

Sounds like the clutch assembly for your A/C unit is toast!! thats why the belt broke, Hopefully its not the whole unit seized,, that gets expensive !!

How do I know if my 2002 Jeep Liberty has jumped time or timing chain/belt broke?

WE INSPECT IT WITH MARK1, EYEBALLS (A MIL JOKE)
SCAN IT YET, SEE CAM, ERRORS. >> USING REAL SCAN TOOL.?
NO ENGINE TOLD 2.4l IS CAM BELT
VIN DIGIT #8 IS ENGINE CODE, NOT TOLD AND IS A PURE ENGINE QUESTION.
OR THE 3.7l LIKE MINE V6, ?
IF A CHAIN GOES BAD IT MAKES HUGE RACKET.
THAT MEANS NEVER RUN it LIKE THAT. EVER.
Both engines are interference, so driving them with bad cam drive
has huge risk of engine damage $3000 + bills, parts./labor

not told at all why? is engine acting odd. or makes nasty sounds.
or CEL lamp; on ? or other cluster errors glowing.
or what? what's up doc?

top evidences is lost power or engine destruction.
huge racket (noise max)
for the belt drive snapped, it makes noise only on destructiong
head valves hit piston, wrecked
why not get it serviced and ask the person live for advice.
ask the tech in a shop.
say check it out.

I have a kia Rio 2008 that Won't accelerate properly and I have a belt that screams when turn on ac. It idles terrible.

If belt is making horrible noise when you turn on the AC it is possible that the compressor is frozen and the belt is not turning the pulley.

Saturn making a whining noise that gets louder when you press on the accelerator

Sounds like a bearing is on its way out in the drive belt system, could be the alternator, idlers, a/c if fitted, water pump.

Disconnect drive belt and spin all pulleys, and you will feel if one is loose, tight or making a noise it shouldn't.

Is there a power steering belt that could have broke if everything was working fine and just all of a sudden had no power steering?

well you could open the hood and look. a broken belt usually makes quite a flopping racket when it goes. today's cars usually have a serpentine belt which runs the power steering, the alternator, and the air conditioning pump so when the belt breaks you hear the noise, the steering gets hard, and the alternator light comes on. a few cars however have separate belts. open the hood and take a look. will look like a black belt laying in there.

My 1998 Ford Explorer Sport S-belt makes a continuous squeaking noise that gets worse with acceleration. The alternator and the belt are both working, the belt just squeaks horribly. I've put silicon on...

it is likely one of the pullies failing. the most likely one is the tensioner pulley. only way to fix that is to replace it. also examine the front of your water pump. if there is any fluid "weeping" from the casting hole(s) at the front that would likely be your culprit

I know my santa fe, and i started listening a horrible humming

what kind of noise? if rattling noise and noiser when you accelerate, either in idle position or while moving, then you need to overhaul. if high pitch sound and noiser when you accelerate, then check you bearing in timing belt mechanism
