I have a 1998 grand marquis LS,4.6 engine. both coil packs have no fire, and the fuel pump isn't working. i changed the ecm, still no fire or fuel.can it be the main brain computer?

I looked up info for your vehicle, it shows coil on plug ignition, no coil pack, Is that correct?

The ecm or pcm is the computer. Am I misunderstanding your post?

2002 mercury grand marquis missing and hesitating

Since it could be several different things in the ignition system, as well as fuel and other things, you may have to get professional help.
Some things you did not mention are the coil, cam and crank sensors, and the computer.
I assume the check engine light is on and the only code you have is a random miss. There are a lot of things to rule out.

2003 grand marquis with misfire code p0316

The first problem you have is assuming that the ignition coil is the only thing that can cause a misfire.

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0316 is a "continuous memory only" code that indicates that there is a fault causing a misfire during the first 1000 revolutions of the crankshaft immediately after engine start-up. This should be accompanied by the regular cylinder misfire monitors (Codes P0301 through P0310) unless the misfire does not continue long enough for the regular misfire monitors to determine which cylinder is misfiring.

In order to determine what is actually causing the problem, you must have access to a scan tool that can perform Key On Engine Off (KOEO) fault testing and Key On Engine Running (KOER) fault testing as well as interfacing with the onboard engine computer to read live data and perform system tests.

Please note that generic OBD code readers DO NOT have the capabilities to do what you need to diagnose this problem. You will most likely get additional DTCs that can help lead you to find the source of the problem when KOEO and KOER tests are run. Generic OBD code readers can access only continuous memory DTCs.

Possibilities/conditions/systems that can cause this code are:
>Camshaft Position Sensor
>Low fuel: less than 1/8 tank
>Stuck open EGR Valve
>Blocked EGR passages
>Ignition system
>Fuel Injectors
>Fuel injector control circuits
>Running out of fuel
>EVAP canister purge valve
>Fuel Pressure
>Evaporative emissions system
>Base engine (mechanical) problems

93 Grand Marquis starts but wont run

Hello, There are several things you can try. Usually when a safety switch called an "Inertia" switch works, you will not get any fuel. It is puzzling that your car would get enough fuel to try to start, but I imagine it could still siphon a small bit. For this switch, you go into the trunk and on the Drivers side there is a switch for the fuel and the air ride if equipped. There is a Reset button on the "Inertia" switch that you press and Hold down for a second or two. Then try to restart your car.

If this does not work, you may have a Bad Ignition switch. Before condemning the Ignition switch you need to check for spark from the coil or power to the coil. If no spark or power you may not be getting power from the Ignition switch to the PCM. Inside the big Black fusebox there is a PCM relay, and it is easier to replace than the Ignition key. A good Autoparts store will be able to show you which one is the correct Relay. In some cases the Horn Relay may be switched to test, as these Relays are usually the same.

While you are at the Autoparts, Autozone, Advance, and Oreilys have tool loaner programs. You could test the fuel pressure in the test port above the engine and on the Injector lines. If you have a working fuel pump after resetting the Inertia switch, then this connection will show if the fuel pump is working. You can borrow the test tool from these 3 stores.

A scanner will help if you have a "Check Engine" check light. Getting all of this together when you are away from home may be difficult. You may need to tow the car if these simple tests I suggested do not work.

Need diagram for ignition coils for 2001 Mazda Tribute. Tripping code: P0351 Ignition Coil Primary/Secondary Malfunction???? Thanks

Same as Ford Escape.
P0351 - Ignition Coil A - Primary/Secondary Circuit

Cylinder #1, Pin 26 at the PCM, computer.

I would replace the coil on the plug (COP) for that cylinder and see if its' ok. If not, then it is possible that the bad coil took out the driver in the PCM. The test at Pin 26 to see if the light blinks, must be done with the correct tester or it will damage the PCM.

Hope it's the coil.

report results.

Fig. This is the coil wire. Replace it if it looks like this
  1. Remove the ignition coil cover from the ignition coil by releasing the locking tabs on both sides of the cover, then remove the ignition coil.
To install:
  1. Install the ignition coil, then attach ignition coil cover, making sure the cover is firmly in place.
  2. If removed, connect the ignition coil and radio interference capacitor, then install the ignition coil retaining screws. Tighten the retaining screws to 25-35 inch lbs. (3-4 Nm).
  3. Connect the coil wire, then engage any electrical connectors that were removed.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

Hope help with this (remember rated this post). TY for using Fixya.
